Champagne Bars – And not all POP

Dear Eve,

Our concept is based on the idea that sparkling wine and Champagne can be enjoyed without having to feel like a wine expert. We wanted to share our passion for Champagne and sparkling wine with younger people, and introduce them into the world of wine.

All three of us who started the business are in that age group. We tried to create a space and atmosphere that was both fun and elegant to compliment Champagne.

We encourage our guests to play with wine pairings and flavors rather than sticking to traditional rules.
Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you for your interest in us, and we would love to have you try us out.

Take care.
Warmly,
Kristin Traylor
Managing Partner

The above letter is in response to an e-mail I had sent to the new POP Champagne and Dessert Bar to find out more about a different wine bar experience. How could a wine bar, specializing in Champagne, not be a party? Though not in the SCV (they are located in Old Pasadena: 33 E.

Union Street, 91103, 626-795-1295) they are the closest Champagne bar to the SCV. And they are one more bar requesting our attention and attendance…So here’s the scoop:

Over 50 wines by the glass,

flights and bottles from a wide range of producers,

Champagnes, sparkling wines, dessert wines and artisanal beers,

on site certified sommelier,

small plates, gourmet cheeses, charcuterie and home made desserts,

Just don’t show up on Monday or Tuesday – they are closed.

Events:

Anti-Superbowl Party Sunday 2-1-09 from 2-10pm.
POP Night: Bottles of Pommery POP Champagne $15
Happy Hour at POP: $4 Mimosas, Bellinis, Draft Beers. $3 Miller High Life, “the Champagne of Beers” and 20% off Beginning Bites.Veuve “No TV” Night serves up Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV for $10 a glass. (Check their website for details: http://www.popchampagnebar.com/)
Now, if this all sounds good to you, as I know it does Diane O., let me know and we can plan a trip together. And, if you go it alone, let me know what you thought. If readers are interested I will add their events to my SCV Wine Calendar.

Yours, in wine and out,

Eve

  1. Thank you, Eve, for adding something on Champagne. Now if only I didn’t have a job I couldn’t leave right now and didn’t live hundreds of miles away. How far is Old Pasadena from you? Is it something we could do next time we visit? I think I might have to go home and drink some tonight. Yum.

  2. It’s about 30 minutes from our house but I believe there are Champagne bars cropping up all over. Maybe you’ll be getting a closer one. But we are going soon so…book a “flight” my little Champagne Baby!
