"Double R Turns 40 with a Grapefruit Martini" By Carrie Kish

Well, Eve missed this one! I turned 40 and she was home with the cooties.

In honor of my birthday, I invited my friends and family to my Westridge home on Friday October 30th for a night of food and fun and, of course, wine. What I didn’t anticipate was that the bartender would custom blend a special drink in my honor, which he called “Carrie’s Birthday Beverage”. It was a grapefruit martini with a champagne floater. It was garnished with a cranberry sugar rim, fresh grapefruit and mint. It was amazing and everyone loved it and I never did drink any wine at my party. I’ve been unable to chase down the recipe, but I got you all the ingredients and I don’t think you can go wrong. So, mix it up!

A progressive dinner presentation was provided by An Affair Extraordinaire and included Butternut Squash Raviolis and Steak Diane over mashed potatoes. My favorite part of the evening and a memory I will cherish forever is when everyone joined together under the full moon and the stars and sang Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” to me. And, now my secret’s out. My name is really Caroline. This was all orchestrated by Jorge and Sandra Lopez, my dear friends from J&M Entertainment who also provided the casino, DJ and lighting for the evening.

About 100 guests showed up to celebrate, play casino games and dance. In lieu of gifts, my friends and family donated about $1500 to The Betty Ferguson Foundation. Marjanne Priest, the founder, Jane Bettencourt-Soto, the executive director, and Tera McHugh, Betty Ferguson’s vice president all joined in the celebration. The funds raised will be used to pay for a new Youth With a Voice Program Director.

Editor’s note (that’s me!) I found http://Dukeontherocks.com gave this recipe:

Pretty in Pink

Ingredients

1.5 oz Ciroc

.5 oz Lillet

1 oz Grapefruit Juice

.75 oz Simple Syrup

Top with Champagne

Served chilled in a sugar rimmed martini glass

Creating the cocktail

Shake all the ingredients (except Champagne) over ice and

strain into a sugar rimmed martini glass. Garnish with crushed pink peppercorns.
