Thankful for Vodka and Gin today

In asking readers their favorite Vodka, then their favorite cocktail with Vodka…the story was morphed, by staff writer Rusty Sly, into Gin:

Denise G: Grey Goose

Michele N: sky…I’m simple and old fashioned..good old vodka and cranberry, with a splash of orange juice is good for me!

Erin H: Charbay Blood Orange Vodka (oooo, but then there’s also Myer Lemon and Ruby Grapefruit, and….). Just too good!

Darlene G: Vodka – Ketel One vodka straight up with a twist.

Rusty S: Hendricks gin, mist of vermouth on the rocks shaken, not stirred and a good 007 movie.

Jennifer T: I am with you Rusty. Hendricks……………..mmmmmmm

Rusty S: One of my favorite martinis uses 1 oz vodka, 3 oz of gin and 1/2 oz of Lillet Blanc. I add just a little more Lillet than called for. Pour the gin, vodka and Lillet blanc into a cocktail shaker half-filled with cracked ice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon, and serve. This believe it or not is known as the James Bond Martini. He was drinking these in Casino Royale.

Chef Mike: You want to chose a classic Manhattan served Martini Style – Or better yet in place of classic bitters you use Maraschino cherries mulled with a touch of Frangelico to mix with your favorite single batch bourbon NOW THAT IS HEAVEN!

Kimberly F: Grey Goose, wave a bottle of vermouth near the vodka, shake it like a polaroid picture, pour into a chilled martini glass, and add three blue cheese stuffed olives. That, my dear friend, is whan I’m talkin’ about.

Gina V: I’m more of a Vodka Martini gal. Especially Apple & Pomegranite.

And, My favorite vodka martini from an earlier post: Domaine de Canton (DDC) Martini is a vodka martini (we like Imperia) with DDC ginger liqueur replacing the vermouth. DDC tastes like candied ginger…

And after all this drama it’s back to wine!

  1. Eve,

Sorry to change the Vodka string. At least the James Bond Martini satisfies both of our pallets.

    Cheers,

    Rusty Sly

  2. Don't know how I missed this. My fave is Absolut, but I also really like Ciroc – it's made from grapes!

  3. We bought Ciroq recently, and for Eddie's birthday I got him a Jewel of Russia. Think we better plan a night in soon to try both naked, then in a Martini!
