Make SCV Green Your Valentine! Art, Wine and Chocolate on February 13, 2010

SCV Green invites all who love the Santa Clarita Valley’s open spaces and wildlands to an evening wine-and-chocolate reception and silent art auction from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at a Victorian home in Newhall’s Happy Valley neighborhood. The silent auction will feature local plein-air artists’ works illustrating our region’s natural beauty. Plein-air, or “open-air” artists paint outside in a natural environment, rather than in the confines of a studio.

Santa Clarita’s All Corked Up is advising on wine pairings, and tea and coffee will also be available.

While SCV Green hopes both to promote local artists and raise funds for this year’s operating expenses, the group also intends to enlist support for a locally-driven private land trust that will help keep wild places wild, wildlife corridors connected and scenic vistas undisturbed. During the evening, SCV Green board members will give a short talk about the wildlands of the Santa Clara River watershed and what a private land trust can do in partnership with public agencies such as the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the City of Santa Clarita Open Space District.

SCV Green is a new local non-profit land trust and wildland conservation organization, formed to advocate for and acquire undeveloped land in the Santa Clara River watershed, and to promote watershed sustainability and wildlife habitat corridor preservation. For directions to the event and more information, please RSVP to Krista Sloniowski, SCV Green Executive Director, at Sloniowski@hotmail.com or text to 310-435-8773.
