Pole Dancing and Wine

As things happen, on Facebook, an invite goes out by way of an “update” on a profile.  Some people update, or Tweet, every hour so you may miss one if you have a day job.  Nicole, the woman behind the pole, tweets a couple of times a day.  In the morning to get us up and ready is the one I usually catch and looks like this:

Nicole: GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS- Night out at the Stinson’s! It is going to be a FANTASTIC, FABULOUS, AMAZING, MAGICAL, FUN, AWESOME day!! Wahooooooo!! Pick one and go with it! Make it a GREAT day!! 🙂 We have 10 Fabulous Women attending our evening Pole Fitness tomorrow!!! I am very excited !! It will be a the most fun networking, workout, wine drinking, event yet!!! WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Then came Eve: WAHOO I MAY NOT HAVE TO DO IT AND JUST WATCH.

Back from Nicole: Oh no, you will be twirling!! After all, how will you report on it unless you try it yourself! 🙂

And here come the Friends

Wow, ten gals…yippeee. That means while I’m waiting to move and groove I can be sippin’ my cab with Eve. Sounds like a fabulous night to me!

PLENTY OF COFFEE AND B’12 TODAY!
I might be able to SWING it !! Please put me down as a tentative right now, but I think I can finally do it 😉
Got my twirlin’ shoes all picked out (hmmm, the red ones or the black ones?) Can’t wait!
Is that like pole dancing? 🙂
I wish I hang with you daily
Yes Eve…give the girl a pole, and you’ve got her!
How much “wicked” FUN!!!!!
I’ll be there!
I am hoping…if the spots fill I understand…the 7-mile hill run I did a week ago has created a monster in my low back.  I have asked it to leave I’ll keep you posted if I can make it..sounds like a blast!
Kirk… don’t forget to set up that hidden camera before you leave… you just never know what might happen when you leave those ladies alone with each other dancin on the pole erotically…. LOL
I’m soooo sad…can’t make it 🙁
The story behind the story, by Nicole Stinson
After taking my first class at a studio – I was hooked! Ordered a pole the next day, installed it in my living room! It is an unbelievable workout, muscles hurt that you did not know you had. It is very empowering also. My kids love to spin on it! We never call it pole dancing or stripper pole, it’s all about FITNESS AND FUN!
The reason I share it – not many people will join a class at a studio just on curiosity. It’s expensive and can be hard to do if your not comfortable with the idea. Having it here in the house, I can share with friends for free, and it is in the comfort of the house.
We can have wine before or during or after the pole … whatever makes someone relax and enjoy! There are no rules, EXCEPT TO HAVE FUN AND FEEL EMPOWERED ! Pole Fitness is not stripping or dirty, it’s a FUN way to get a great workout with great friends.

WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

What Happened
Rose, Nicole, Elizabeth, Eve, Dailyn, Dana, Jody, Ginger and Jackie were the official rsvp-ers.  A couple of the ladies had done this once before; Elizabeth for sure as she was the only one that brought stilettos! But most of us were just intrigued by the whole pole idea.  And those of us on the cusp…the wine was sure to help.
Nicole was sending her husband Kirk away for the evening (though he might have left his Stinson plumbing truck near so we could find the right house) and I made sure he took a glass of wine with him before he left.  Nicole had plenty of munchies and the ever-present Windex and cloth to keep the pole oil-free and easier to grip.
As the ladies arrived, wearing the requisite gym-type clothing, shaking hands or hugging, getting a glass of wine, I thought, gee, no competitive dressing here!  Never in my life had I been so immediately made comfortable in a new surrounding.  Was it the wine?  The pole?  The comfort of Windex?
And so to begin, I paired our warm-up leg stretches with Chateau St. Jean Cabernet “Cinq Cepage” (blend of Cab, Cab Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec).  Of course we didn’t stretch with glasses in hand, we drank, stretched and then drank again.
Next up was a 2005 Argentian Cabernet from Familia Zuccardi that went with our first attempts.  Dana, a marathoner recovering from foot surgery, would alternately sigh and walk away from the pole or take a running hop towards it.  The woman was driven and mastered the thing before our third bottle.
I was told to grip with my inner thighs and try to pull myself up the pole.  This was to be more of an upper body workout. (Think firemen/fire poles.) Later the mention of feet wrapping around the pole might help my grip, after said thighs felt a wee bit bruised and thoughts of firemen no help.
While Jackie and I chatted it up in the kitchen, the latter having thrown in the towel, Dailyn and Jody arrived and took a swing at it.  Elizabeth showed us her backwards move, Rose did something that required a sway back and Nicole showed us the art of upside-down hair.
We then worked our way through a Freestone FogDog Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir paired with goodbye pole hello potato chips.
Dessert wine for Nicole was a Rosenblum Cellars Black Muscat (thanks Diane G!).  Then onto the Nillas – Nicole’s trademark breakfast and our parting gift boxes affixed to a card that read:
Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
Love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones that don’t.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said life would be easy.
They just promised it would be worth it.
Friends are like balloons.
Once you let them go, you can’t get them back.
So I’m going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.
Love,
Nicole Stinson
