WINES CHAMPION LearnAboutWine.com HOSTS “REVENGE OF MERLOT” AT DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES’ ELEVATE LOUNGE APRIL 28

40 Vintners to Debunk the “Sideways” Myth and Share Why Merlot Deserves
Its Spot as One of the Top-Selling Varietals

WHAT: LearnAboutWine invites Merlot lovers to stand by their wine as the varietal regains its pre “Sideways” standing at this aptly titled event “Revenge of Merlot.”  Head avenger and LearnAboutWine founder Ian Blackburn has invited 40 of the top Merlot vintners to participate in what promises to be a re-coronation of this often misunderstood and maligned wine.  Proceeds from the silent auction benefit TJ Martell Foundation and Cancer Research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

WHY: Because it’s time to debunk the “Sideways” myth.  According to a recently commissioned independent study investigating consumer wine consumption patterns and attitudes, Merlot has the single largest consumer base of any varietal wine in the U.S. and, of the major wine varietals, is the one most closely associated with high quality at an affordable price.

Sales for Merlot jumped five percent in January and this was no surprise for Blackburn.  “Bright fruit aromas, rich flavors, and a full, round mouth feel – Merlot is an accessible, lush treat affordable for a wide range of budgets.  What’s not to like?”

WHO: The event will feature wines from boutique and renowned wine producers including: Cakebread, Coho, Duckhorn, J. Lohr, Kelham, Matanzas Creek, Northstar, O’Shaughnessy, Peju, Pride, Rosenthal, Silverado Vineyards, and Ty Caton.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 28, 2010 7 – 10 p.m.

WHERE: Elevate Lounge / 811 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, 90017 (Located in the shared in-door/outdoor roof-top space with Takami Sushi)

COST: $39 for members and $69 for non-members online at www.LearnAboutWine.com $60 at the door (if tickets are still available)
