Grape of the Night Changes for May

Grape of the Night is a monthly get-together of wine 101ers and experts that share a passion in learning more about wine via tasting and discussion.  We usually choose one varietal for each month.  But, as we’ve met so many times now, we are striving to avoid duplication.

So our first change is that this month, instead of a particular varietal, we will be exploring a particular area: Paso Robles wines.  (Yes, I’ll be bringing Pulchella as it’s a Paso wine made by local winemakers Steve Lemley and Nate Hasper.  And I love the opportunity to have more of you learn about them.)

The second change for May is that we may have a new host for the evening as Rusty Sly may be detained. (That you will recognize from attending many meetings.)
DeniseLowe hasbeen collecting wine and learning about the ‘noble grape’ for many years, andthere is nothing about which she is more passionate.  She has extensiveexperience pouring fine wine at consumer and trade wine and food events, aswell as at private residences and corporate-sponsored events.  In her goalto continue expanding her knowledge of wine, she received certification as aCertified Wine Specialist through LearnAboutWine (www.LearnAboutWine.com),and now teaches LAW’s Wine Camp or Wine 1.0 classes.  Denise is aProfessional Member of the Society of Wine Educators, and is studying to be aCertified Wine Specialist.  Her blog, Goddess of Wine (http://goddessofvino.blogspot.com)details her adventures in the wine world, accompanied by her faithful acolyte, husband John Dickey (JD).  The Goddess and JD love wines from Paso Robles, having been collecting wines from that region for over 20 years!

From your normally scheduled host, Eve’s Wine 101 staff writer Rusty Sly: For the nextGrape of the Night we will share and sample wines from Paso Robles. The next meeting will be atValencia Wine Company on May 10, 2010 at 7:00PM.  Friends Guy Lelarge and JeffPrange of VWC, not only host our group but provide support and takecare of all our needs. They are extremely knowledgeable and will notsteer you wrong. Most of my wine knowledge is the result of attendingclasses and tastings at VWC. Be sure to check out their website at http://www.valenciawine.com.
