An update from Maryland for Eve’s Wine 101 readers everywhere

Eve –

I am very honored to be given the opportunity to serve Marylanders in gaining consumer choice and freedom. I look forward to working with the Board and the new Executive Director, John Hesse. John’s background and capabilities are very impressive and necessary for the current organization’s phase. I believe he will do a great job for MBBWL.

To address your concerns directly, I would like to make sure we provide you with information that is valuable and useful to you.  I will be more than happy to work with you to understand your needs as well as the goals of your writings so we can comply and reply appropriately.

As you know, Direct Ship is our primary focus this year and John will be leading the charge on that issue. However, like many of our members, I share the same areas of concerns/interests that extend beyond Direct Ship and Corkage. One of our strong member voices sent me an excellent list yesterday and as I read them, I appreciated the multi-faceted nature MBBWL provokes in our membership with complementary concerns such as:

• Keeping small businesses strong in Maryland
• Keeping agriculture strong in Maryland
• Encouraging growth in the liquor distillation business in Maryland

We will continue to face challenges and opportunities on many different levels. As we seek fairness, open competition, and freedom, we will meet opposition. However, I have faith and determination that our voices will reach the right ears. From job creation to unique tourism opportunities to supporting entrepreneurialism to encouraging sustainable agriculture to maintaining legacy farm lands, we provide a voice too important to ignore. We ultimately promote a strong and vibrant Maryland and we take our role very seriously.

I look forward to the future and working with you as we communicate, educate, and deliver upon MBBWL goals. Keep sending feedback and thoughts. We need your continued support and participation.
