Barry Lancy: Wine for Windows

Computer problems and wine do not normally go together, but in learning to write in the blog world has brought about a special relationship between my computer and I.

I was attempting to re-install every program that was ever installed on my computer, after some virus had made my system unresponsive. My laptop is not new and the thought of just buying a new one was not out of the realm of possibilities, but no no, I decided to just reinstall.

As I sat watching the little blue progress bar scroll across the bottom of the screen on one computer, I was chatting on www.facebook.com on another. A message of “from one wino to another” popped up in my inbox.

Finally a windows error message that I can understand:

Taking this as a sign, I went to the wine cooler and poured a nice little after dinner, dessert wine from Herzog wine cellars. It is a late harvest 1993 Johannisberg Riesling.

After a glass or two, I didn’t really care how fast that stupid little bar creeped across the screen. Sometimes a message hits you at the right time, and you should heed what it says.
