Take a Pourtal in Santa Monica for lunch

Eddie and I attended the Rhone Rangers LA tasting about a mile or two from Pourtal Wine Bar yesterday.  (Full story on RR will be on this blog on Friday.)  After the RR event, we drove over to see the new Santa Monica mall, though Portal’s Stephen Abronson warned us against it due to the crowds, and found ourselves sober and tired of walking about 4:30pm.  So we decided to go to Pourtal.

Stephen was an excellent host, and even though we thought we could finish a bottle of wine after the RR tasting, instead experimented with their Tasting Card.

We always thought we’d hate the impersonality of the system, but, instead, found ourselves quite happily experimenting with both the technology and wines.

We sampled an excellent Plumpjack 07 Cabernet, La Fenetre Syrah 08 Santa Barbara and Domaine Henri Delagrange Pinot Noir 07 Hautes-Cotes de Beaune.

We settled in to people watch – Pourtal is a block from the beach – and perused their new new lunch menu below.  The menu items were new for us too but the two we tried – the Mini Kobe Wagyu Dogs and the Housemade Hummus – were both palate pleasers and a perfect end to another perfect day in the life of a wine 101er.
