an Intimate Wine Class Series Set on the Patio

WHAT:

“Sommelier to the stars,” Adam Leemon will lends his wine whit and wisdom in a 5-part series of enlightening wine tasting experiences set oceanside at sunset. Each of  the bi-weekly themed sessions invite an intimate group of 15-20 enthusiasts for sensory study on sipping and savoring the world of wine. Guests will sample wine and food pairings, as well as receive a $10 Tasting Card to further their education at Pourtal Wine Tasting Bar.

WHO:

Awarded for his wine excellence and certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Adam Leemon, “The Wine Guy,” is not your grandparents’ sommelier. Lending his laid back approach and humorous educational style to demystify the world of wine to LA’s aspiring connoisseurs, Adam affords a modern taste on age-old traditions. Co-host of “The Tasting Room with Tom Leykis,” Founder of LA Wine Fest,educator, media personality, consultant, lover of wine and notably the “sommelier to the stars,” Adam has ascended the ranks to become one of the most influential voices in the wine community.

August 17   Session #1  “Back to the Basics”
Wine Tasting 101 – the fundamentals of wine tasting. This session will focus on wine from the bottom up. We will touch on regions, growing and vinification with a focus on practical tasting techniques. Getting comfortable with conversational wine speak.  How to analytically taste wines, identify characteristics and profiles, and speak like the pros do.

August 31   Session #2  “Variety of Varietal”
Understanding the general characteristics of grape varietals. We will explore the most common grape varietals and their specific characteristics, as well as compare and contrast the qualities of each.

September 14   Session #3 “Terroir”
We will discuss the importance of terroir in the production of wine. Why many think this is the key factor in grape growing. We will see specific examples of different types of soil composition and taste wines made from grapes grown in each. We will site examples from around the globe.

September 28   Session #4  “Passport to Wine”
This session explores the different regions of the world. We explore in depth a specific country and focus on the variety of wines produced, including specific regions and typical grape varietals.

October 12   Session #5  “The Perfect Pairing”
In this session we will explore and experience wine and food pairings, and discuss the complementing characteristics that afford the perfect pairing. This session will be a culmination of the series, drawing insight and intrigue of lessons learned preparing the palate for more practical application.

COST:

$35 per session – includes wine education and tasting, appetizers and a $10 Pourtal Tasting Card.

$150 5-session package, includes a $50 Pourtal Tasting Card (available for advance purchase on or before August 17).
