Garber & Company
Sandy Garber is co-owner of Topanga Vineyards, with her husband Ralph Meyer.
In addition, she is the owner of wine distributorship Garber & Company.
Recently, I had the pleasure of accompanying DiMaggio Washington, owner of The Cellar, to a trade tasting in Culver City of wines distributed and brokered by Garber & Company.
Per the list given to us at the beginning of the tasting, wines featured were from:
Becky Wasserman Champagnes
Garber & Co. Imports
Southern Wine Group – South American Portfolio
Osseus Wine Co.
Abeja Winery, Washington State
Amavi Winery, Washington State
Dancing Coyote Wines
Obsidian / Molnar Family
Stephen Ross Winery
Stephen Test Wines
William Harrison Winery
Standouts for me were:
Amavi Cellars (Washington) Syrah 2008: We visited Washington several years ago and I’ve been a big fan of Washington Syrahs since. This one was no exception.
Cambiata Tannat Monterery County 2007: I was introduced to Tannat several years ago through Bonny Doon. Turns out that one of Bonny Doon former winemakers, Eric Laumann, makes a pretty darn good one himself.
Preston Vineyards Syrah-Sirah 2007: Even though this blend only contains 5% Petite, the inclusion of this varietal was really evident on the nose.
I also really enjoyed:
Abeja Winery (Washington) Merlot 2008
Durigutti (Mendoza) Bonarda 2008
Dancing Coyote Wines Petite Sirah 2009
Molnar Family Chardonnay, Poseidon’s Vineyard, Carneros 2008
Molnar Family Kazmer and Blaise Chardonnay 2008
Michael Perlis provides outsourced controller services to businesses that do not need a full-time controller. He balances this with his interest in wine: reading and writing about it and, of course, drinking it. He is still trying to figure out how to combine these two pursuits.
