Carrie DuShey: My Big Fat “Greek” Cocktails

As many of my friends know (because I have been endlessly complaining) I have just finished a Koine Greek intensive class. While studying the verb endings MAI, SAI and TAI my class began to joke about the need for rum drinks to get us through the lesson. I volunteered to have the entire class over for Mai Tais and on the last day of class we celebrated with a Big Fat Greek Drinking Party. The following recipes are the Koine Greek inspired cocktails that I created and served to my weary classmates.

Mai Sai Tai

16 oz gold rum
8 oz light rum
8 oz Triple Sec
32 oz orange juice
32 oz pineapple juice
24 oz sweet and sour mix
8 oz grenadine syrup
dark rum float (optional)

Mix ingredients together. Serve over crushed ice. Top with a float of dark rum (optional.) Garnish with pineapple and a cherry. Makes 1 gallon of tropical deliciousness.

Koine Killer

2.5 oz light rum
1 oz dark rum
1 oz apricot brandy
1 oz lime juice
1 oz pineapple juice
2 oz orange juice
1 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz simple syrup
151 rum float (optional)

Mix ingredients together. Serve over crushed ice. Top with a float of 151 rum (optional.) Garnish with pineapple and a cherry.

Blue Aegean

4 oz blue curacao
6 oz Malibu coconut rum
6 oz light rum
32 oz pineapple juice

Mix ingredients together. Serve over crushed ice. Garnish with pineapple and a cherry. Serves 4.

Mounce Cooler

Mix half Blue Aegean and half Koine Killer.
Serve over crushed ice. Garnish with pineapple and a cherry.
