L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade Culinary Cookout Returns to Fight Childhood Cancer for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Suzanne Goin, Caroline Styne and David Lentz Rally America’s Top Chefs and Mixologists for 2nd Annual Event to Help Fund Childhood Cancer Research

After a wildly successful inaugural year in 2010, the L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade Culinary Cookout, hosted by Chef Suzanne Goin, partner Caroline Styne (Lucques, A.O.C., Tavern) along with Chef David Lentz (The Hungry Cat), will return to Culver Studios on Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 12 – 4PM. Goin, Styne and Lentz have again enlisted the support and generosity of their culinary friends around the nation who will donate their time and services to raise funds and awareness for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) in their quest to find better treatments and cures for all kids with cancer. The Presenting Sponsor for the cookout will be Volvo Cars of North America.

The 2nd Annual L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade invites food and wine lovers from all corners of the globe for an afternoon of fantastic fare, cocktails for a cause, children’s activities, silent and live auctions, and much more. In addition to General Admission tickets of $175, L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade will offer two other ticket tiers: a $400 level for VIP early entry and special seating; and a $1,200 Premier Ticket level. The Premier Ticket will include early admission, special seating and an exclusive Meet-And-Greet dinner the night before the event prepared by Nancy Silverton and Chris Bianco from Phoenix’s celebrated Pizzeria Bianco. All other participating chefs will also be in attendance at the Meet-And-Greet dinner.

Children are welcome to accompany their parents to the Sunday festivities and those under 10 receive complimentary admission. Tickets for all levels are available for purchase online at www.lucques.com, www.thehungrycat.com or www.AlexsLemonade.org/campaign/la-loves-alexs-lemonade. All proceeds will benefit ALSF.

Galvanized by their experience at The Great Chefs Event benefitting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in Philadelphia, Goin, Styne and Lentz felt ready to partner with their east coast friends and lead the way for a Los Angeles-designed event to broaden the reach of Alex’s Lemonade Stand’s fundraising efforts. L.A. supporters enthusiastically responded with a turnout of over 800 guests in 2010, sampling signature dishes of over 20 renowned chefs and rapidly contributing over $300,000 in ticket and auction sales in just four hours.  Two auction lots – The Great Women Chefs Dinner with Giada De Laurentiis, Suzanne Goin, Nancy Silverton, Alice Waters, Sherry Yard and Vintner Ann Colgin, and The Great Men Chefs Dinner with Paul Kahan, Michael Tusk, Josiah Citrin, Matt Molina, Michael Cimarusti and Zac Young, contributed $59,000 of over $113,000 in live bidding in 2010. Goin, Styne and Lentz are already developing stunning dining and experience packages for the fall 2011 event.

The L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade 2011 event is shaping up to surpass first year aspirations, with returning chefs Michael Tusk, Chris Bianco, Susan Spicer, Marc Vetri, Jonathan Waxman, and new participating chefs John Besh, Michelle Bernstein, Michael Cimarusti, April Bloomfield, Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo and Gabrielle Hamilton, coming together to cook for childhood cancer cures (for a complete list, see page 2). Guests will also experience the cocktail artistry of major mixologists, including Eric Alperin (The Varnish), Neal Boderheimer (Cure), Matthew Jeronimo (The Hungry Cat), Greg Lindgren (Rye on the Road) and Steve Wildy (Vetri Family) who will craft signature drinks for attendees.

“After seeing the success of The Great Chefs Event in Philadelphia for many years, we were thrilled to see the generosity and dedication of chefs translate into the culinary cookout in Los Angeles,” said Jay Scott, Alex’s dad. “L.A. Loves Alex’s Lemonade only further solidifies their allegiance to the battle
against childhood cancer and we know that these events, which not only please the taste buds, but also raise integral funds for children and their families facing childhood cancer, will continue to contribute to the cure for years to come.”

“We were astonished and thrilled by last year’s response,” said Caroline Styne. “The best part for us was producing an event that was something that we would love to attend as guests ourselves. Accomplishing that element was truly gratifying, and our goal is to bring new experiences to this year’s cookout to make it even more satisfying to both participants and guests.”

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $45 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 200 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
