June 26 update from Jeff: “WOULD YOU PLEASE REVISE MY RECENT REQUEST FOR WINE-POURER VOLUNTEERS AT THE UPCOMING VINE 2 WINE CLASSIC TO STATE THAT POURERS ARE OFFERED HALF-PRICE TICKETS,AND THAT PEOPLE WHO WOULD LIKE TO POUR FOR EITHER THE FIRST SHIFT OR THE SECOND, ARE ASKED TO PLEASE EMAIL ME AT jeffjacobson@circleofhopeinc.org. I WILL BE REVIEWING THOSE REQUESTS IN MID-JULY.”
Hi, to last year’s volunteer wine pourers and to others:
We’re having another Vine 2 Wine CLASSIC, from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m., on Saturday evening, August 18, inside the Activities Center building at the City of Santa Clarita’s Sports Complex, at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, east of the Golden Valley intersection, about 1/2 a mile east of All Corked Up.
If you poured wines at last year’s event, thanks very much. If you didn’t, that’s OK. We’d also love to have your help at the event (as well as referrals of buddies who know wines and would like to pour at the event). We never seem to have enough pourers. And, I like to pair you up, and give you a choice of shift, etc.
I assume that you are familiar with last year’s Vine 2 Wine CLASSIC, or with the SCV Wine Classic, which we’re trying to emulate. There will be about 50 tables where wines will be poured to and discussed with a very appreciative crowd, at a terrific event, with food pairings, live music, a raffle, silent auction, beer garden, etc . The single cost of admission enables everyone to have unlimited tastes of everything, with one exception:
The Circle of Hope will be offering tastes of a very rare bottle of 1863 Bual (sweet) Madeira (from the year of the Gettysburg Address), to the first approximately 40 people for an additional donation of $100.00 for the experience.
We team pourers up in pairs who want to pour together, and in two shifts, so everyone can enjoy the event for half the time, and pour wines during the other half.
If you would like to pour, please let me know:
1 — Who you want to pour with, with their contact information, unless it’s obvious.
2 — Which shift you want:
First shift (6:30 to 8:15 p.m) ___
Second shift (8:15 to 10:00 p.m.) ___
(I’d like to have everyone assemble at my library table by 6:10, so we can have a brief meeting, demo of the 1-ounce wine pour, last minute instructions (I’ll email specifics as to the wines you’ll be pouring, etc., in advance), and introductions to your table and to the people assigned to the other shift at your table, etc. Some people like to share shifts, so you can discuss that option with them.)
3 — If you have a preference as to a particular varietal, or wines from certain countries, etc., please let me know. (I don’t yet know the details of the wines needing volunteers, but I’ll try to assign you to your favorites, if I can.) So, please list any preferences in the space below.
I’ll be vacationing with my family, out of the country, between June 3 and July 8. Although I hope to check my emails from time to time, I’d appreciate it if you would please direct your questions and requests to my friend, the co-Director of Wines, Steve Cravitz, at stevecravotz@circleofhopeinc.org, while I’m away. Please also copy him with your responses to me, as I may decide to stay in Italy. (Ha, ha!)
We look forward to a blockbuster of an event. Further details are available at the Circle of Hope’s website, www.circleofhopeinc.org.
We’d appreciate it if you would mention the upcoming event to as many people as you can. Tickets are available online for $65 + a handling fee, before the event, and for $75 at the event.
We hope you’ll volunteer to pour at the upcoming Vine 2 Wine CLASSIC on Saturday evening, August 18. Please let me know.
Thanks very much,
Jeff Jacobson, Director of Wine

PS — There are two types of volunteers who are currently being recruited for the event: (1) “WINE POURERS,” and (2) “event volunteers” who won’t nearly have as much fun, and many of whom will need to take showers. The latter group is being offered “free” tickets. They won’t be reporting to me, and you won’t be reporting to their managers. Last year, there was some confusion as to who were the volunteers and who were the “pourers.” Please note that you are “POURERS.”
