Sommelier Gregory Alonzo: Georgian Wines and Spirits Score Big in Los Angeles

August 2, 2012 by evebushman

For the better part of a century, the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition has exhibited an array of the finest domestic and international vintages. The annual wine-tasting event is widely considered among the most prestigious in the United States.

Every June, an esteemed panel of international judges is selected to conduct a blind tasting. In this way, and only this way, it is believed that the panel is able to maintain the highest levels of impartiality, integrity and professionalism. This  year, 72 judges evaluated 3300 wines and several hundred spirits.

R. Gregory Alonzo is a sommelier, vodka connoisseur, and distributor of specialty wines and spirits. Educated in both the United States and Europe, he is fluent in seven languages. Greg’s passion is what he calls, “Tasting History.” For Greg, the discovery of the ambrosial delights of kings, the Caesars, and tsars is his personal quest. To share these discoveries is his joy. Topping the list of Georgian vintners at the Los Angeles event was Gorelli. Taking medals in 5 categories, Gorelli is quickly proving to be a leader in the wine industry of the Republic of Georgia.
