Evodka Pomelo Cocktail

According to the evo website, “Pomelo is the grandaddy of the grapefruit” so I had to have it.  Another crisp sounding drink perfect for the last days the summer.

Evodka Pomelo Cocktail with cherries, sugar and lemon peelTheir suggested recipe: One bottle of Evo Pomelo + two shots of your favorite Vodka

What I did to it: One part Evo Pomelo to one shot of Tito’s vodka.  I then wanted something sweeter and scoured my fridge.  I squeezed in the juice of two dark cherries, and then removed the pit and stem and dropped them in to.  Loved the flavor, but still craved more sweetness, so I added a half of a sugar cube.  Garnished with lemon peel, served over ice in an antique Champagne glass.  Very refreshing!

Evo Pomelo Alone: Watching very energetic bubbles erupt in my glass, my nose was tickled by aromas of pink grapefruit ice and lemonade.  On the mouth it was very light and refreshing.  Could totally imagine this after a workout, or at a restaurant, instead of plain lemon water.

  1. Another great “grapefruity” concoctions – last weekend, while admiring the view from the deck after a bike ride to Eric Ericsson’s on the Ventura Pier I tried their “Twisted Beach House” ~ a blend of gin, grapefruit bitters, a splash of elderflower liqueur and San Pellegrino grapefruit soda.

By the way, Eve, you can easily grow your own pomelo tree in a pot. Last year I had one fruit on my new potted tree, this year I have at least a dozen! They are wonderful, and you can also find the best tasting ones at the Farmer’s Market at COC around December that come from Fresno. Sweet, no bitterness! LOVE them. Infuse your own drinks!

    1. Though I do like to make cocktails, I’ll leave the infusing up to the experts and stick to writing about their efforts! Of course, that doesn’t prevent you from delivering some pomelos, or some pomelo-infused cocktails, to me!
