Vintage Eve 12/2016: 18-Year-Old Grangestone Single Malt Scotch Whisky

It’s always been my opinion to never have someone that knows little about wine select wine as a gift for someone that does. I know this from experience….and I have more than one White Zinfandel as proof.

However, I broke my own rule when I asked a beloved family member to gift my husband a single malt scotch whisky. She knew little about the spirit other than that we were fans. But, armed with a knowledgeable whisky attendant at a local Total Wine store, she learned a few things (like who in their right mind would want to drink something with strong aromas of peat moss?) and we scored this one:

Grangestone 18 Year Old Single Malt (Eve’s tasting notes)

Color: A rich 24 karat gold.

Aroma: Butterscotch pudding, rum, vanilla bean, pine, caramel and coconut.

Flavor: Charred marshmallow, butterscotch, Smokehouse almonds and cigar. (tasted with water).

Finish: Medium burn, long length ending in both a slight buttery sweetness.

Conclusion: Wholly pleasant from start to finish. 91 Eve pts.
