Musae: Wonderful Sauvignon “Monferrino”

May 29, 2021 by evebushman

(cultivated in Monferrato) When you present a wine, a vine or a grape, often we mention also the terroir.

We know very well that with this term, as you could easily understand, we are neither talking about territory or soil. By terroir is meant something that goes beyond the aspects, even wide and articulated, that are about the land on which the vineyard lies.

The term terroir denotes and includes the climatic conditions, specific to a  certain region. Moreover, this word includes also the human factor, that implies the history, the culture and the tradition.

The traditional encyclopedia’s  definition of terroir states: terroir can be described as a well delimitated area of the climatic, natural and physical conditions, the geographic zone and the weather, all these element allow the production of a specific wine, identifiable by the unique characteristics of its territoriality. The terroir connects the interaction of many factors as the soil, the position, the climate, the vines, the winegrowers, and the wine’s consumers. Then, the word terroir cannot be banally translated into territory, because the significance is much more complex.

Well, why this introduction to terroir?

Because the word terroir is the reading key to fully understand our Sauvignon in purity, vinified in the two ampelographic varieties Blanc e Gris, which, in Tenuta Montemagno is called Musae.

The vineyards of this international grape flank the road that leads to Tenuta.

The exposure is south/southwest and the vine positioning is guyot, French heritage. The rows follow neatly and precisely the inclination of the hill, offering to the clusters the better exposure and the lowest possible thermal shock, so the grapes are caressed by most gentle sunshine of the day.

The fantasy name describes the wine: Musae, the inspiring figures of poets and artists. The bouquet that opens its perfumes in the glass is exactly that: delicate and inebriant, that reveals itself step by step, offering intense fragrances, with delicate olfactive notes of white flowers, acacia, and hawthorn, tomato’s leave; of citrus fruit, pear, grapefruit and passion fruit. It is supple and deep on the palate thanks to the few months of refinement on yeasts. It is elegant, pleasantly fresh and stands out for the surprising gustatory persistence. Its color is pale straw yellow tending to greenish with golden shades.

Our Sauvignon is out of the pattern and organoleptic traits that characterize the New World’s Sauvignon. We are talking about a Sauvignon proudly cultivated in Monferrato. It si unique since the influence of the terroir is huge, makes the grape unique and enrich it with the traits proper of the soil, Astian Marls. Then, another peculiar factor is the microclimate that here, in Montemagno is definitely different: the rain is rarely abundant and the winds touch the grapes softly.

Musae is 100% Sauvignon, vinified in the two varieties of Blanc – which gives structure and Gris – which gives aromaticity.

This is Tenuta Montemagno’s Sauvignon interpretation, produced under the appellation of Monferrato Bianco Doc, the only appellation to permit the blend of the international grape.

If according to the varieties classification, the Sauvignon is considered  international, for our philosophy and standards’ production, this grape has a deep identity in Monferrato. The vineyards’ roots plunge in the Monferrato soil that millions of years ago was covered by the sea. Furthermore, Musae, the Sauvignon of Tenuta Montemagno tells our story and about the careful and precise job that is carried on the soil, on the vine and the grapes.

Musae is a fresh wine, ideal s aperitif or during the relax moments. It is extremely versatile with the food pairing. Besides to be the perfect combination with the vegetable starts or with fish dishes, it is great with risotto and white meat.

Musae, our Sauvignon of Monferrato is able to surprise with every sip.

BORDEAUX REACHES NEW MILESTONES IN SUSTAINABILITY AND BIODIVERSITY ACTION WITH 65% of VINEYARDS CERTIFIED ENVIRONMENTAL

May 4, 2021 by evebushman

BORDEAUX, FRANCE (PRWEB) – The Bordeaux wine region has reached new milestones in their commitment to sustainability efforts that encompass a wide spectrum of initiatives from vineyard and cellar management, preservation of natural habitats and resources to workplace safety and supply chain efficiency. No single model of sustainability is the same, but the people behind Bordeaux wine share a collective commitment to proactively act to address climate change by preserving scarce water and energy resources; protecting fragile ecosystems; and championing biodiversity from best vineyard practices to alternative packaging. Bordeaux’s vision is an expansive one that includes efforts to sustain the wine community by enhancing worker safety, job satisfaction and training and development for current and future generations.

We are pleased to share the stories of 10 Earth Day Heroes from Bordeaux who exemplify sustainability in action. Our Earth Day Heroes showcase a full spectrum of choices to address today’s significant environmental and societal agenda, including why certification matters; how to inspire their teams; the challenge of educating and engaging consumers; pioneer efforts to develop eco-friendly packaging and supply chain efficiency; and how sustainability and organic winemaking impact the taste and quality of their cuvées.

Meet our 2021 Earth Day Heroes and read their full profiles.

The seasonal craft cider is uniquely made with a carefully selected blend of apples, and finished with lemons, lime and cherries and no added sugar. The addition of the cherry helps create a slightly ruby color, reminiscent of traditional sangrias. Fresh and zesty lemons and limes complement the tartness of the apples, making Swilled Dog Sangria less sweet than wine-based sangrias and infinitely more refreshing.

Swilled Dog Sangria (6.9% ABV) will be available on tap and in 6-pack 12-ounce cans in local stores, bars and restaurants in West Virginia, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Each can of Swilled Dog Sangria contains 180 calories, 11 grams of sugar, 14g carbohydrates, 0g fat, 0g protein and no added sugar.

Swilled Dog Sangria is the latest seasonal release to join a year-round portfolio of hand-crafted hard ciders: Walk the Dog, Pineapple, Wild Berry, Caramel Apple and WV Scrumpy. Swilled Dog ciders are always unfiltered and made from all-natural ingredients.

Apart from crafting delicious ciders that bring friends together, Swilled Dog also celebrates time spent giving back to the community; at least one percent of annual sales benefit animal causes. In addition, 100% of the annual sales of WV Scrumpy are donated. During 2020, Swilled Dog supported organizations such as the Walking Miracles Family Foundation, Clearwater Maine Aquarium, On Eagles’ Wings, and Military Working Dogs Team Support Association.

In addition, Glover was recently elected Vice President, Board of Directors of the American Cider Association (formerly USACM). This is her second term as a member of the ACA Board and she also serves on the Marketing (Chair) and Legislative Committees. During her tenure on the ACA Board, Glover plans to help push regulatory change for the growing industry on a national level and provide actionable support to the Cider industry’s efforts to be inclusive and welcoming to all consumers.

Sampling Single Estate El Sativo Tequila Blanco

November 20, 2020 by evebushman

I have two go-to Tequilas: Cazadores and Asombroso, the former was a gift from my daughter’s fiancé and the latter was one I reviewed that I have since purchased for my liquor cabinet. I’m not much of a tequila-cocktail lover and prefer to sip alone or on ice, and was happy to receive another tequila for review that I could add into my “sipper” category of spirits.

After reading the press release for El Sativo below, I was intrigued by several points it made including the idea that the “terpenes, found in the agave, have a myriad of health benefits, including mood-lifting and energy-boosting attributes”, that they give back to ocean conservancy and are a triple time double gold medal winner. Definitely made me ready to sample.

Tasting Notes

Notes of vanilla bean, heavy sweet cream and toasted popcorn kernel – with no burn whatsoever – on the nose. The taste was smooth yet peppery – so interesting – and flavors reminiscent of buttered popcorn, and that same cream, ending with a spicy finish.

Really liked having it both smooth and spicy! Then tried it with a little bit of squeezed lemon and it was like a lo-cal Margarita. This is not a Tequila to shoot!

Not so sure about added energy, may have to do further study = drink more!

News Release

EL SATIVO, THE FIRST TEQUILA TO INNOVATE A “ONE OF A KIND” COMPOUND FOCUSED DISTILLATION, MAINTAINING THE BENEFICIAL ELEMENTS IN THE AGAVE

100% Blue Agave – Single Estate – 100% USDA Organic – 100% NON-GMO – Certified OK Kosher

El Sativo, the 2020 Tequila of the Year at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, launched this summer. Bottles will be available for purchase at Whole Foods and Total Wine in California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Illinois along with retail stores throughout Texas, more states will be added shortly. El Sativo will debut their offerings with the award-winning Tequila Blanco, with plans to offer a reposado and anejo in 2021. Tequila Blanco will retail between $39.99 – $45.99 for a 750ml.

El Sativo’s co-creators and fourth-generation family of distillers use an innovative distillation process that captures and accentuates the agave plant’s own natural benefits. “These terpenes, found in the agave, have a myriad of health benefits, including mood-lifting and energy-boosting attributes, which is why we transformed our distillation process in order to help maintain their properties,” states co-founder Dr. Robert Summers.

The El Sativo team is committed to improving the environment, helping to build awareness, and pushing to find remedies to help preserve the precious resources of our planet. Translated from Spanish, El Sativo means “Sown in Seeds,” as anything planted, nurtured, and grown is life. Every bottle sold gives back to ocean conservancy. The bottle is made of 100% recycled smart non-combustible glass and has an organic soluble label that is pesticide free.

El Sativo Tequila is certified USDA organic, 100% Non–GMO, Kosher and Eco-friendly.

THE PROCESS

“Our distillery is located in the lowlands of Amatitán, Jalisco; we’re single estate, our agaves are planted, nurtured, and harvested solely in our fields and never sourced. It was important for us to be completely organic, so our cultivation is carried out without pesticides or fungicides, and we only use organic fertilizers. The organic certification process is far more complex and time consuming than the process for common tequila.” says co-founder and singer-songwriter Jaime Whitton.

Using small batch stone ovens, the blue agaves are slowly steamed for 24-48 hours, using no diffusers nor autoclaves. The process pays homage to the art of tequila making by using the traditional technique. Fermenting with its own natural yeast, the team uses reverse osmosis water filtered through 135 feet of volcanic rock for a pure filtration process.

40% ABV, 750ml, NOM 1480

TASTING NOTES: EL SATIVO TEQUILA BLANCO

Bouquet: Opulent bright citrus with sweet agave
Palate: Lift of white pepper and sweet agave with a waterfall of stone fruit savoring on the taste buds Finish: Long, seductive rollercoaster finish.

ABOUT EL SATIVO

Originated by a spirited family with over 25 years in the tequila industry. El Sativo is an innovative tequila that lifts the spirits and stands apart from the crowd. Our sweet agave dances in waterfalls of stone fruit soaking in memorable days and fun-filled nights. El Sativo sets itself apart by utilizing a special distillation method that naturally highlights the agave plant’s precious resources known to have mood lifting and energy boosting attributes that exemplify #SoSativo. A Single Estate masterpiece and the winner of 3 double gold awards, including 2020 Tequila of the Year (San Francisco World Spirits Competition).

Guillotine Vodka’s Heritage Edition Included in “The Best Vodka Brands To Buy Right Now”

October 8, 2020 by evebushman

MARINA DEL REY, CALIF. (PRWEB) – Guillotine Vodka had a pretty successful summer season. Throughout the summer the brand had heavily promoted and highlighted their Originale, an ultra-premium vodka made from the finest Champagne-region grapes. This vodka has a light and clean finish, offering notes of citrus with hints of almond and toffee. However, the star of this past summer season was the Heritage barrel-aged vodka. To no one’s surprise, this amber-colored vodka continues to steal the show, receiving validation from global news outlets.

Guillotine Heritage barrel-aged vodka has been listed as #3 by the acclaimed New York-based magazine, Rolling Stone in their “The Best Vodka Brands To Buy Right Now” article. Recognized for their opinions on popular culture, Rolling Stone emphasized the demand for Guillotine Heritage and reinforced the brand’s credibility by noting the uniqueness and sophistication the Heritage possesses, comparing it to a fine cognac.

The article goes on to highlight the brand’s success, stating: “Guillotine is ideal for anyone who’s already developed a palate for vodka and is looking to try something new. It’s been lauded by experts and the public alike, earning a Double Gold Medal at the consumer-judged SIP Awards in 2019.” The Rolling Stone article was then re-published by Yahoo!, more than doubling its exposure to an audience that may be familiar with vodka, but not necessarily aware of this new French vodka that claims to be A Cut Above Le Reste.

Guillotine Heritage Barrel-Aged Vodka is a unique aged vodka that is matured in Cognac and Armagnac barrels made from very special Limousin oak, adding notes of cinnamon and toffee with hints of mandarin orange and licorice. Made in a 100-year-old distillery using a mix of ancient methods and modern savoir-faire, Guillotine Heritage Vodka is an ultra-premium spirit unparalleled in quality, taste, and joie de vivre.

Guillotine Heritage Barrel-Aged Vodka is the only French vodka from Champagne-region vineyards that is aged in oak barrels, instilling Guillotine Heritage with its unique aromas, increased roundness, and golden amber hue. Smooth and clean, with subtle woody notes complemented by hints of spice, vanilla and cinnamon, this exceptional vodka has just the right amount of umami.

Guillotine Heritage Barrel-Aged Vodka is crafted with care using artisanal techniques steeped in France’s rich history of fine wines and spirits. The process starts by handpicking and de-seeding world-renowned grapes, slowly pressing them, patiently distilling them, and expertly preserving their essence. The taste and finish of Guillotine are the results of mingling white and black grapes such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay.

About Guillotine Vodka

Guillotine is a revolutionary French vodka created exclusively from the Aÿ-Champagne region’s finest pinot and chardonnay grapes. Founded by Paul Berkmann in 2016, the brand’s mission is to introduce the world to the finest artisanal spirits, starting with ultra-premium vodkas that are unparalleled in quality, taste, and joie de vivre. Guillotine is 100% natural, vegan-friendly and gluten-free, containing no coloring or flavoring additives, no glycerol, and no citric acid.

Discovering Camins 2 Dreams in Lompoc

August 14, 2020 by evebushman

Was recently invited by fellow wine writer and organizer of the #LAWineWriters group, Cori Solomon, for a road trip to Lompoc. It had been awhile since our group had met but Cori found a winery she liked that was most willing to set up for us outside and socially distanced for a tasting. The winery is Camins2Dreams and this is their story.

“Wife and wife” winemakers Tara Gomez and Mireia Taribo Tena share the Camins 2 Dreams winery. Some of us had already tasted wines made by Gomez, as she is also the winemaker at Kita. The pair make wines, starting with their flagship Gruner Veltliner and Syrah, only in a natural style. Cori hinted that “Tara and Mireia have a good story.”

We quickly learned that the pair has years of winemaking experience between them. Gomez got her Enology degree and began making wine at J Lohr (where the two met) and Fess Parker before starting Kalawashaq’ Wine Cellars (the winery name is the same as the village her Chumash forefathers lived in). Fast forward to taking some time away to make wine in Spain, specifically at Castell d’Encus, where Tena was the winemaker. Tena also has an Enology degree, and went back to school to earn a Masters in Enology, Viticulture and Marketing of Wine.

The pair started Camins 2 Dreams in 2017, making wines from Sta. Rita Hills vineyards that focus on 100% natural bottling, not filtered or fined, all foot stomped, no new oak barrels (their new standard) and only add SO2 (a wine preservative) just before bottling. Their first production was a mere three barrels.

“We have to adjust for each vintage…it’s difficult to be consistent. So the focus is on the vineyard,” the pair shared. They “respect the land and want (their) vineyards to be SIP certified.” Look for newcomers Grenache and Graciano in their lineup.

Tasting (Notes on aromas and flavors were provided, I will only comment on those that I noted as remarkable.)

We started with a 2019 Gruner Veltliner that was a big hit with the group. Noted: pear, green apple, freshness, acidity and it worked as the perfect palate cleanser for the tasting. At the end of the tasting we were treated to a refreshing Pet Nat of their Gruner Veltliner which is described by Wine Enthusiast as “Pét-nat, or Méthode Ancestrale, is a method of sparkling wine production used all over the world. … After a period of rest that can be as short as a couple of months…”

After the white wine we moved over to their pink, a 2019 Rose of Syrah that had been made in the saignee method with nearly zero skin contact and completely fermented in stainless steel. We notes strawberries, Rainier cherries, pomegranate with a crisp finish that I thought would lend itself well to a nice picnic with cold fried chicken.

Then we started on their many Syrah wines: 2017 Zotovich Vineyard, which was their first, which had a lovely blueberry nose, tannins and long finish – my favorite of the Syrahs. A 2018 Zotovich had a lovely balance and a bit lighter to me than the 2017. The 2018 Spear Vineyards had a medium body, black fruit and a decent amount of acidity that I felt was due to its youth.

We finished for with a 2018 JSB (from the John Sebastiano Vineyard) that had been bottled just two weeks prior, and a red table wine that was a combination of both 2018 and 2019 Syrah from all three vineyards: JSB, Pear and Zotovich.

My takeaway: If you seek natural wines Camins 2 Dreams is not to be missed.

21st Amendment Brewery Announces New Craft Hard Seltzer Brand: SOMA Hard Seltzer

August 9, 2020 by evebushman

San Francisco, Calif. — 21st Amendment Brewery pays homage to the South of Market (SoMA) neighborhood they’ve called home for 20 years with a new hard seltzer brand: SOMA Hard Seltzer (100 calories, 2g carbs, 0g sugar). Founded in 2000, 21st Amendment’s brewpub is among the pillars of the Northern California craft beer scene located in SoMA, the new heart of the city. SOMA Hard Seltzer‘s 6-Pack design commemorates the originality of the neighborhood from its stencil artwork and murals by local artists to downtown’s angular landscape to the revitalization of the area with new live/work spaces and restaurants. The perfect mix of grit, renewal, and natural beauty, SoMA reflects a modern renaissance happening in metropolitan enclaves across the country such as Brooklyn, LoDo in Denver, and others. SOMA Hard Seltzer celebrates home, no matter where you might dwell.

Masterminds of beloved fruit beers (i.e. Hell or High Watermelon), 21st Amendment’s SOMA Hard Seltzer carries on their infatuation with watermelon for a clean, crisp all-natural seltzer that also comes in enticing flavors such as Guava & Passion Fruit, Mango, and Black Cherry. 21st Amendment’s craft hard seltzer line is executed with the same level of innovation as their acclaimed beer portfolio.

“SOMA Hard Seltzer is brewed with our craft roots in mind. We spent six months working to get the flavors and taste just right. Unlike other hard seltzers, 21st Amendment’s is made using a natural fermentation process giving it a cleaner flavor. SOMA Hard Seltzer is NOT made with grain neutral spirits, and then diluted with water. Many hard seltzers made that way have a metallic and artificial taste. SOMA Hard Seltzer is brewed with Virginia Dare natural flavors, a 90-year-old New York company making wonderful products for the beverage industry,” says Shaun O’Sullivan, Co-Founder and Brewmaster.

Nico Freccia (Co-Founder/CEO, 21st Amendment Brewery) adds, “SOMA Hard Seltzer is wonderful for the active on-the-go individual who is looking for a craft ‘better-for-you’ beverage. It does not fill you up with its 100 calories and 2 grams of carbs with zero sugar.”

Hot summer days are upon us, and whether you’re enjoying your time inside or venturing outdoors, SOMA Hard Seltzer brings a taste of home wherever you roam.

SOMA Hard Seltzer is available now in all 30 states where 21st Amendment distributes. For more information and to find some using our beer finder, please visit www.21st-Amendment.com.

February 15, 2020 by evebushman

Entering the beverage market this winter the founders of Mine Shaft Brewing (MSB) are proud to announce the launch of Cali Orchards® Hard Sparkling Water. Cali Orchards® Is the World’s Most Deliciously Flavorful Refreshing All-Natural Hard Sparkling Water Made With Real Fruit Juice As Nature Intended with Zero aftertastes.

Orlando, FL – Public Wire LLC – Entering the beverage market this winter the founders of Mine Shaft Brewing (MSB) are proud to announce the launch of Cali Orchards® Hard Sparkling Water. Cali Orchards® Is the World’s Most Deliciously Flavorful Refreshing All-Natural Hard Sparkling Water Made With Real Fruit Juice As Nature Intended with Zero aftertastes.

Once You Try Cali You Never Go Back!

As of this press release, Cali Orchards® has won every blind taste test against the biggest brands in the seltzer/hard sparkling water space. One of the things that separates Cali Orchards® from the top brands is that Cali Orchards® flavor and smell last the whole can and not just the first sip plus Cali Orchards® has ZERO sodium VS the top brands having from 5mg to 25mg of sodium per a 12oz can. Cali Orchards® is loaded with flavor VS Just a Hint of Flavor.

Cali Orchards® is proud to announce it will make its first public appearance in Northern California and across UT in early spring through its distributors. Carlson Distributing for all of UT and Saccani Distributing for its territory in northern California. “Carlson & Saccani have been great to us, and we are excited to be working with such incredible distributors with great histories” said Tim Nemeckay, President of MSB.

Cali Orchards® is all-natural, low calorie, low carbs, low sugar, gluten-free, and vegan – all with 5.0% ABV. On top of these healthier attributes, MSB partnered with a world leader in all-natural ingredients. It was paramount to work with one of the best companies in the world to create Cali Orchards®  When we first started working with the company we said: Ask yourself, would you eat a peach, black cherries, orange or any other fruit if you only tasted it on the first bite, or it only had a hint of flavor. Would you eat raspberries and say “let me put lime juice on them” or “some fresh melon sounds good this morning but let me put some basil on it.” Probably not, so why would you drink a hard-sparkling/seltzer water with a hint of flavor and only on the first sip or some crazy combination fruit and herbs said Tim Nemeckay President of MSB.

Cali Orchards® Was Created with The West Coast in Mind. Sunsets, Endless Days, And an Active Lifestyle. We’ve Tested Our Product from The Beaches to The Mountains. As Nature Intended, Cali Orchards® Is Made with Real Fruit Juice. The New Summertime Drink Anytime of The Year.
