Mitch’s Java ‘n Jazz Coffeehouse Returns! At Kokolita Cakes & More, 27530 Newhall Ranch Road, Valencia CA.

July 30, 2012 by evebushman

Local entrepreneur, Mitch McMullen (Newhall Coffee Roasting Company), brought his coffeehouse, Mitch’s Java ‘N Jazz, back to the Santa Clarita Valley.  The Coffeehouse is located inside Kokolita Cakes & More, a gourmet bakery featuring premium cupcakes, custom cakes, and an assortment of baked goods and is in conjunction with the launch of breakfast at Kokolitas.  Martha Aguilera, owner of Kokolita Cakes & more said “Our gourmet cupcakes pair very well with Mitch’s specialty coffee drinks and our retro café compliments what Mitch calls the “Java ‘n Jazz Experience”.  We are excited about the return of Java ‘n Jazz inside our 1950’s style bakery.”

Mitch’s Java ‘N Jazz first opened its doors in 1993 in Newhall, and quickly became a local hot spot of the Santa Clarita Valley and was what some refer to ‘the center of the cultural universe for the SCV’.    Java ‘n Jazz had three stores and a mobile cart in the Santa Clarita Valley at its peak five years ago, before it served its last Espresso Mocha Smoothie (a.k.a. The Joanie Special), in 2007.

On Saturday night, June 9th “A Night of Mitch’s Java ‘N Jazz” kicked off the beginning of a new era for this independent coffeehouse.   Opening night was only the beginning.  The coffeehouse is playing classical old movies and is bringing back its popular Reggae Thursday nights, live Jazz & Blues on Saturday nights, while trying something new on Friday nights: “Friday Nights with Lucy” featuring episodes of the famous 1950’s icon.  “Kokolita’s is the coolest 1950’s style bakery and is the perfect venue for classical movies, gourmet cupcakes, pink polka dots and espresso milkshakes” said Mitch McMullen.  Beginning last week, Mitch’s Java ‘n Jazz inside Kokolita Cakes opens at 7am Monday thru Friday and serving breakfast empanadas, croissants, pastries, muffins & soon: crepes.  Free 12 oz cups of Newhall Coffee were offered all day during the first two weeks in support of the launch.  Newhall Coffee Roasting Company was born inside Mitch’s Java ‘n Jazz in 1995 and many Southern Californians drink the local micro-roasted brew as it is available at local Costco & Sam’s Clubs.

Kokolita Cakes is located at 27530 Newhall Ranch Road, Valencia CA and their phone number is 661 257-9338 (25-SWEET)
