Gold Medal Wine Club Celebrates Independent Winemakers in their Garagiste Wine Club

June 13, 2020 by evebushman

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. (PRWEB) – “Gold Medal Wine Club opens up about the Garagiste Wine Club and the ultra-boutique wine-makers they feature each month.”

Gold Medal Wine Club is breaking the mold when it comes to conventional wine selections and is currently the only wine club with a Garagiste-specific niche, featuring two completely unique “Garagiste” wines each month.

Garagiste is a French term used to describe artisan winemakers who handcraft small batches of wine on their own. This is often a passion-filled side project done by some of the top winemakers of critically acclaimed wineries who desire to stray from the ways of big corporations in order to make something completely original and something completely their own.

In a sense, these winemakers are considered the ‘rebels’ of the industry for taking risks, using their own methods and non-standardized techniques to produce their one-of-a-kind wines from a wide array of grape varietals. To strengthen the rarity factor of Garagiste wine, the wine-makers only produce minuscule amounts of each wine making them extremely exclusive.

“Non-traditionalists love the discovery aspect of finding wines made by fellow non-traditionalists! The fact that the original French ‘Garagistes’ used uncommon techniques in addition to terroir to create their wines speaks to that individualism,” remarks Linda Chesterfield, Gold Medal Wine Club co-owner. She adds, “The recipients of these wines get to experience some of the most exciting and under-the-radar wines that are a result of this independent wine-maker movement, and we’re thrilled to be able to provide that for them.”

Gold Medal Wine Club’s Garagiste Wine Club began when the term first started to gain a following in the company’s home state of California. It was created to highlight and celebrate the independent winemaker spirit by embracing the ever-changing landscape of high-quality, small-production wine. The result has been some of the most compelling and authentic wines in the world.

Selecting wines from small-lot winemakers who typically produce less than 1500 cases annually means these wines are virtually impossible to find anywhere in the marketplace. The Garagiste Club features two different bottles of rare and fascinating wine from two different Garagiste wineries every month, most of them from California, but occasionally from Oregon and Washington.

“The majority of these wines are sold to consumers directly from the winery itself and maybe appear on their local restaurants wine lists. It’s very exciting that we get the opportunity to share these small, up-and-coming wineries with our Garagiste Wine Club members” adds Kelsey Chesterfield.

Created in such small quantities, Garagiste wines sell out quickly, so be sure to sign up for the Garagiste Wine Club and start your journey of uncorking some of the most extraordinary and exclusive wines. If you are not interested in signing up for the Garagiste Wine Club, you can still experience these wines by ordering them in the Gold Medal Wine Club online wine store.

Gold Medal Wine Club, located in Santa Barbara, CA is one of the country’s longest running, independent wine clubs, founded in 1992. Gold Medal Wine Club specializes in introducing small, family owned wineries and wines direct-to-consumers all across the United States. Every winery featured is a hands-on, family endeavor producing authentic wines with a true legacy.

Eli and Ashley Parker Confirm Spring Opening of The Bear and Star in Los Olivos

March 22, 2017 by evebushman

Chef John Cox’ Refined Ranch Cuisine is Founded on the Rich Ecosystem of the Parker Ranch in Foxen Canyon

Wagyu Cattle, Chicken, Quail, Pigs and Produce Raised on the Ranch to Supply the Restaurant

LOS OLIVOS, California; March 2017 – Eli and Ashley Parker of the Parker Hospitality Family announce their restaurant, The Bear and Star, opening in April 2017 at 2860 Grand Avenue in Los Olivos, the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. The restaurant features refined ranch cuisine inspired by the Santa Ynez Valley and the heritage of the Parker family.

15844713_1310824712314175_6629638173887395214_oLeading the culinary team is celebrated Chef/Partner John Cox, who earned accolades for his work at Sierra Mar at the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur.  Cox is supported by the talents of Santa Barbara native Chef Jeremy Tummel and Sous Chef Trent Shank. Overseeing the restaurant and beverage program is General Manager Andrew Scherer.

The Bear and Star refined ranch cuisine model is intrinsically intertwined to the 714 acre Fess Parker Home Ranch located seven miles away on Foxen Canyon. 75 head of Wagyu cattle are raised and finished with the spent grains and pomace from the family brewery and winery. Also raised on the ranch are chickens, quail, rabbits, pigs, and bees, and a number of heirloom fruits and organic vegetables for use at the restaurant. With this all-encompassing ecosystem developed under John Cox’s passion and vision, the Parker family links their lasting history and expertise in hospitality, wine-making, and ranching to the dining experience. Chef Cox’s extensive culinary background in both California and Texas – shared by founder Fess Parker – creates a style that is singular to The Bear and Star and the town of Los Olivos.

There are four distinct environments within the restaurant space: The Dining Room; Wine Room for local winemakers and private functions; Chef’s Room for classes and small dining groups; and the Bar/Lounge. Integral to the restaurant is the 30′ custom reverse-flow Texas smoker housed at the Home Ranch, the source for slow smoking and barbecuing many of the selections on the menu. Designed by Chef Cox, the mobile smoker is a self-contained wood-fired kitchen with a pizza oven, Big Green Egg, sink, onboard refrigeration and lighting.

Breakfast, lunch and brunch service takes place on the front terrace and cozy bar/lounge facing Grand Avenue where guests may observe the comings and goings of Los Olivos locals. The 50 seat dining room for evening service is a perfect blend of sophistication and rustic elegance. This space features jewel tones of garnet and ruby with lush oversized chairs and velvet banquettes accented with kilim pillows, dark barn wood floors and sleek marble surfaces. The design by Oliva Villaluz’s results in an elegantly casual feel designed to complement Chef Cox’s refined ranch menu.

“John and his team are incredibly talented and passionate about this ambitious project. Connecting the restaurant to our family ranch is something we’ve always dreamed about, and with John’s guidance, it’s finally coming to fruition. What a great fit with the Parkers,” states Eli Parker. “Ash and I are very excited to share the refined ranch cuisine concept with our Valley locals and visitors.”

The restaurant is open daily for breakfast from 7:00-10:30 a.m.; full day menu for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.and serves brunch on weekends from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The Bar and Star Bar serves from 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 midnight.

ABOUT THE FESS PARKER FAMILY:

Since the late 80s, the Parker family has focused their time, energy and resources on building a hospitality portfolio around the beauty and bounty of Santa Barbara County.  The acquisition of 714 acres on the venerable Foxen Canyon Wine Trail in 1987 set the stage for the establishment of the Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard. With an emphasis on estate-grown Rhône varietals, the wines consistently earn 90+ point ratings from top wine critics around the world. The launch of The Bear and Star Restaurant, nestled within the Wine Country Inn, is the latest endeavor of this wine, food and hospitality-loving family enterprise.

Vintage Eve March 2012: Santa Clarita Wine Fest – Part Deux!

September 27, 2016 by evebushman

It was a picture perfect day for wine tasting. The pesky wind was held at bay and white wine stayed chilled under the expansive tents while guests collected at tables serving wine, spirits, beer and lots of goodies to pair them with.

Also cool this year was that the event was held at the Bridgeport Marketplace. Guests had the food trucks by day, and by night, so many great restaurants to have dinner in (and sober up!) before driving home: Sabor Cocina Mexicana, Marston’s, SAKE Bistro and Sushi, and Frankie’s NY Italian being some of my favorites.

Faves

The Michael Hoefflin Foundation table had an impromptu raffle set up that few were aware of. For a $10 donation you went home with a $10 bottle of wine…or up to a $100 bottle of wine. Even I bought a ticket. I hope they did well.

The P and the K in P & K Chocolates were charming: Pam Dirickson and Kim Larsen. Serving several different cake bites they were certainly a hit. Reminded me to make the short trip to their Canyon Country store and get a box.

My other personal favorites included Wedell Cellars three Pinot Noirs and one Syrah, B & P Winery’s 08 Merlot, Robert Reyes Chardonnay and White Port, ValBeMar Specialty Coffee, Inception Wines 10 Viognier and Pinot Noirs, Sips Sparkling Cocktails’ Cucumber Mojito, Ventura Limoncello by the shot and in a cocktail, the fun people in the Valencia Cigar Lounge, Rocky Fino, aka “Will Cook for Sex”, The Wine Rack, and the entire lineups from Boutique Sake, JVS Imports for Scotch, Bourbon and Rye, Pacific Edge for Anejo, Tequila and Reposado.

Jenny Ketchepaw on the wine Sexual Chocolate: “I liked the wine, I liked that it’s from San Luis Obispo, I liked the vibe, I liked that it’s young and fresh – great with a chocolate-covered strawberry!”

Kathleen Carson Marquart: “Inception – the purple labeled Pinot.”

Matthew Rungaitis and Christine Andrews: “B & P had the best wines!”

Danielle Whitener: “The Cielo Purple Haze…smoky, and so good!”

Dan and Joanie Warner: “The tequila was great! Our fav wine was Inceptions Viognier…we really liked the limoncello too. Dan did try the scotch.”

Meredith Kent McGowan: “I was impressed with the Malibu hills winery, Cielo!”

Kevin Friend: “Loved the Tempranillo from Witch Creek, also the Roxo Bordeaux blend ‘port’.”

Jacob Stark: “The Firestone Walker Brewery was great.”

Denise Lowe, Fest Sommelier: “It was a crazy day! Everyone was happy, challenges were well-handled and a lotta money was raised for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation. My team worked their butts off and made me look good.”

Will You Join us for the Valencia Wine Company Holiday Wine Tasting? It’s Their 12th Time!

November 6, 2015 by evebushman

There is one annual event that my husband Eddie and I have never missed in the past 11 years, even the one year it had to be postponed a week due to a shut down of the 5 freeway:

The classiest annual holiday wine tasting is at our very own, locally owned, Valencia Wine Company on Towne Center Drive in the Westfield Valencia Mall. This year the event will be held on the afternoon of Saturday November 14 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. (You can stop in the wine bar or call to reserve a ticket: 661-254-9300.)

vwc info on holiday bannerUnique Tasting/Eating/Educational Opportunity

Guests will have plenty of time to taste wine from both domestic and imported sources – see our growing wine list below.

All of the wines will be paired with both savory and sweet treats catered by the one and only Martha Aguilera, owner of Kokolita.

Besides having the three hours to taste wine and food, guests will have a special treat – education, if desired, from the winery representatives.

George Skorka – a wine representative serving during the event, that so happens to have a stellar wine pedigree as a sommelier and wine judge – has been devoted to Valencia Wine Company’s education program for many years. This is an event that guests look forward to as it’s an opportunity to learn and taste with George.

The many wine representatives that will join George are very educated about the wines they are serving, so it’s pretty much a sure thing that if you want to learn more about what you are tasting, you will!

One more thing: You should be able to get some of your necessary holiday shopping done! Each guest is given a tasting booklet that is several pages long; listing out all of the wines and their prices. And though my husband usually goes for a case (there is always a nice discount for buying a full case) I can’t be positive that all of the wine we purchase will be gifted to others.

Keep your eyes peeled to the Facebook event page for Valencia Wine Co.’s 12th Annual Holiday Tasting because…I will be posting teasers there until the event takes place on November 14!
