Caroline Martin Named Master Blender of The Busker Irish Whiskey

January 30, 2022 by evebushman

NEW YORK (PRWEB) – Award-winning The Busker Irish Whiskey is proud to announce the appointment of Caroline Martin as its new Master Blender at Royal Oak Distillery. Caroline Martin joins the team following a successful launch campaign which saw the brand take home multiple top accolades and scores. Proof of this is the highest rating (94 points) and “Best Buy” among all Irish whiskey blends from Wine Enthusiast and the medal collections achieved at World Whiskies Awards and at San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Furthermore, The Busker Pot Still won a Gold Medal at the Irish Whiskey Awards last month; our pot still is the most typical expression of Irish Whiskey and we’re honored to be recognized as one of the best in this category.

Caroline Martin, taking over for John Ramsay, will be responsible for the ongoing quality of The Busker Irish Whiskey as well as delivering an exciting innovation program for the brand and category as a whole.

Caroline’s 35-year-long career showcases her incredible leadership and expertise having worked as a Master Blender and whisky specialist on various staple Scotch and Irish Whiskey brands such as J&B, Bell’s, Johnnie Walker and Old Parr, as well as Roe & Co. and Indian Signature blends. Her wealth of whisk(e)y knowledge, experience, and dedication to the craft has brought her wide recognition across the industry, earning her the prestigious titles of Keeper of the Quaich and Blender of the Year by The Spirits Business in 2019 for her role with Roe & Co. Caroline Martin also proudly carries her reputation as a mentor and pioneer for women in whisk(e)y, pushing the boundaries of this industry.

“I am honored to take on the title of Master Blender of such a contemporary, adventurous and bold range of whiskies. It’s an exciting time not only for The Busker as a brand, but for the Irish Whiskey sector as a whole, which remains the fastest growing spirits category,” says Caroline. “The Busker is currently the only brand offering the full Irish whiskey experience of single pot, malt and grain whiskeys as well as a blended whiskey, all of which are produced at Royal Oak Distillery. As such, we have full visibility and control of how our products are distilled, matured and blended,” says Caroline. “I’m looking forward to working alongside the team, harnessing my passion for whiskey flavors, crafting new whiskeys, and ensuring the ongoing quality of The Busker range which is already winning many whiskey awards.”

Alan Dempsey, General Manager of Royal Oak Distillery states “We are delighted to have Caroline as part of the team at Royal Oak Distillery, working alongside our lead whiskey blender, Niall Bolger. Caroline’s experience, skillful blending techniques and positive attitude will play a key role in continuing to deliver the high quality of whiskey that Royal Oak Distillery is recognized for, while also driving innovation and flavour development of our whiskey portfolio. We wish Caroline all the best in her new role.”

About The Busker:
The Busker Irish Whiskey is born out of a modern Ireland, where the contemporary and bold meet at the crossroads of tradition. The Busker is produced at Royal Oak Distillery in County Carlow, Ireland, which is located on an 18th century estate in Ireland’s Ancient East region. It is the only distillery in Ireland which offers all three classic Irish styles of whiskey – Single Grain, Single Malt, & Single Pot Still, which make The Busker Single Collection. The Busker portfolio also includes The Busker Blend which is a beautiful blend of The Single Collection. The Busker uses different casks during the maturation process of their whiskeys including Bourbon casks, Sherry casks and Marsala casks. Most recently, The Busker took home multiple top accolades at the 2020 LA Spirits Awards: The Busker Single Malt was awarded the 2020 Platinum Medal and Best Irish Whiskey, while the Single Pot Still and Blend were awarded the Gold Medal.

The Texas Whiskey Festival and Remington Family Distillers are excited to release a bourbon barrel aged Caffe Del Fuego

January 27, 2022 by evebushman

AUSTIN, TEXAS (PRWEB) – The Texas Whiskey Festival and Remington Family Distillers are excited to announce the release of the Ironroot Republic Distilling bourbon barrel-aged Caffe Del Fuego collaboration.

Tejas, the Spanish spelling of the ancient Caddo word for “friend” or “ally,” is a collaboration between the festival and various Texas distillers to create unique offerings that showcase their methods and character. Each bottling will be a limited release available only through the respective distiller.

The Ironroot Republic Distilling bourbon-barrel-aged Caffe Del Fuego is the second release in the Tejas collaboration series. Caffe Del Fuego is coffee liquor done right. “As lifelong whiskey drinkers we have always loved how it pairs with our product. That’s why we were super excited by this project. By aging Caffe Del Fuego for a year in Ironroot bourbon barrels we were able to create a special release that really captures the best of two great spirits. Our rich coffee taste, their smooth, smoky accents, and the deep caramel and vanilla flavors from both come together into something truly noteworthy. I can’t wait for our fans to have the opportunity to enjoy this,” said Mark Remington Koelsch, President and Founder of Remington Family Distillers.

The bottling totaled just under 500 – 750ml bottles. It will be available…exclusively through the tasting room at Remington Family Distillers. “I love that three companies came together to create this fantastic product,” says Jake Clements, Co-Founder of the Texas Whiskey Festival.

“The collaboration is still going; the empty barrels are now back at Ironroot for the second part of our collaboration.”

Tejas came to embody the character of the weathered and resilient settlers who saw the wide-open west as their destiny. This series pays homage to their intrepid resolve by bringing together our favorite Texas distilleries in a spirit of friendship that exemplifies the pride we take in proclaiming, “We are Tejas!”

New Deal Distillery’s Old Tom Gin wins Best of the Northwest

January 13, 2022 by evebushman

PORTLAND, ORE. (PRWEB) – New Deal Distillery’s Old Tom Gin wins Platinum in Sip Magazine’s 2021 Best of Northwest Barrel Aged Gin category. Distilled with over 20 botanicals and barrel-rested in French oak, this amber colored gin bridges Portland’s craft distilling scene and Oregon’s winemaking tradition.

New Deal’s founder, head distiller, and self-proclaimed “young Tom”, Tom Burkleaux tinkered and experimented with this gin recipe for years before finally making it a part of New Deal’s permanent line of spirits this past May. Embracing their proximity to the Willamette Valley, this final rendition of Old Tom Gin is aged in Oregon wine barrels and slightly sweetened in the traditional style, creating a warm, toasty, and highly sippable spirit. Burkleaux explains that “while Old Tom is not a new style of gin, it is a style that’s continually evolving. Old Tom is a large and diverse category that has historically encompassed both barrel aged and sweetened gins, and we set out to combine the two.”

So, why is it called Old Tom Gin? In 18th century England, before London Dry Gin stole the show, Old Tom was the gin of choice. It was so popular that several prohibitive laws were enacted to curb its consumption but this only drove the gin scene underground. Since gin was nearly outlawed, pubs secretly selling this ‘mothers ruin’ would alert interested parties to its availability by putting a wooden plaque of a tomcat outside their building. After a coin was deposited through a slot in the wall, the bartender would slyly pour a shot through a pipe out to the patron. Some say it’s this reference to the old tomcat plaque that gives Old Tom Gin its name. However, like much of the history of spirits and cocktails, the exact answers are not known. There are other theories, some having to do with a tomcat falling into a vat of gin or an older distiller named Tom.

What is known for sure is that aging a spirit in wooden barrels affects its overall flavor profile — the gin can take on barrel characteristics like vanilla, clove, oak and smoke. For this reason, Old Tom Gin is often popular with whiskey fans as the gin takes on some of the same notes of barrel aged whiskey and can be enjoyed similarly when served on ice or simply sipped neat. Curious to try this fascinating (and award winning) spirit? New Deal’s Old Tom Gin can now be shipped right to your door in 40+ states: https://shop.newdealdistillery.com/product/new-deal-old-tom-gin/

The Texas Whiskey Festival Collaborates with Modisett and Sons Distillery on a Brandy Finished Single Malt

January 9, 2022 by evebushman

AUSTIN, TEXAS (PRWEB) – The Texas Whiskey Festival and Modisett & Sons announce the release of a collaboration whiskey, Single Malt finished in used brandy barrels.

Tejas, the Spanish spelling of the ancient Caddo word for “friend” or “ally”, is a collaboration between the festival and various Texas distillers to create unique offerings that showcase their methods and character. Each bottling will be a limited release available only through the respective distiller.

Tom Roy from Modisett & Sons is a 18 month old single malt aged one year in used barrels, then finished six months in used brandy barrels. Named after the dad in the father son duo this single malt uses a unique barley called Golden Vienna Pilsner that is packed with incredible flavor. The brandy barrels are former homes to an orange muscat brandy from Andalusia Whiskey Co. The combination creates a flavor profile best described as orange creamsicle pie.

“I love the history of this project,” said Texas Whiskey Festival Co-Founds and creative director for the Tejas series Jake Clements. “Before the barrels aged the brandy they held the first ever Bottled in Bond Whiskey released in Texas.”

This is a limited release available in 375ml bottles. It will be available exclusively through Modisett & Sons tasting room. “It was incredible to see how the flavors changed in a short amount of time,” said Modisett & Sons Co-Founder Tom Roy Modisett. “It created flavors I fell in love with.”

New Deal Distillery’s Driftwood Libations offer premium ready-to-drink cocktails

December 29, 2021 by evebushman

PORTLAND, ORE. (PRWEB) – After a long day at work, not everyone has the time, patience, or know-how to make a balanced cocktail – but thankfully, New Deal Distillery does. So, let them fix you a drink! New Deal Distillery’s Driftwood Libations line https://newdealdistillery.com/driftwood-libations offers pre-mixed cocktails that only need to be poured, stirred, and garnished – truly bringing bar quality cocktails to your kitchen.

It is no secret that COVID-19 has changed the way that the general population imbibes. The RTD category has exploded in popularity and as consumers’ interest has grown, so has that of beverage producers. This boom led to some truly amazing canned cocktails but there was still something missing from the market. As New Deal’s owner and head distiller Tom Burkleaux explained, “the goal of the Driftwood Libations project was to craft an elevated RTD cocktail, something you might serve up to impress a guest, to celebrate a special occasion, or to truly treat yourself”.

Cue the Driftwood Libations flagship – The Driftwood Manhattan. This cocktail classic is crafted with three-year straight rye whiskey along with house-made vermouth and bitters. All that’s needed is a glass and some ice to enjoy. The success of this ready-to-pour and easy-to-drink cocktail inspired yet another classic, a Brandy Old Fashioned crafted with New Deal distilled Willamette Valley wines. This was soon followed by an Espresso Cocktail that infused house distilled vodka with cacao nibs and Portland-roasted Marigold Coffee, Burkleaux maintaining that “if wide-leg jeans get to come back, so do Espresso Martinis”.

This trio will soon be joined by a Negroni Blanc and Vesper Martini, with more expressions in the works. Looking to buy your friend a round? New Deal Distillery’s Driftwood Libations are now available for shipping to 40+ states: https://shop.newdealdistillery.com/

California Cowboy Whiskey and Moonshine Bandits have announced their partnership to launch Bucked Up Bourbon

December 19, 2021 by evebushman

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) – California Cowboy Whiskey and Moonshine Bandits have announced their partnership to launch Bucked Up Bourbon. This straight bourbon is smooth tasting and behaves with the same maturity and poise of a veteran aged spirit, but still has the kick and flavor of an outlaw whiskey.

Moonshine Bandits

“Over the years we have consumed thousands of gallons of whiskey in every dive bar, saloon, and biker festival all across America, but it wasn’t until we taste tested California Cowboy’s whiskeys that we felt there was a bourbon worthy of the MSB brand,” commented Big Tex from Moonshine Bandits. “We would put Bucked Up Bourbon against any other brand. Our bourbon is super smooth and built for anyone that lives life on the edge. Let’s get Bucked Up!”

Jeff Szafarski from California Cowboy Whiskey added, “At California Cowboy Whiskey we have collaborated with many great people over the years but we could not be more excited than to be working with Moonshine Bandits. Driven by our shared love for whiskey and a good time, we created something truly special with Bucked Up.”

California Cowboy Whiskey is a whiskey brand inspired by the persistent, independent, and determined. True to the craft, our high-quality whiskeys are aged for a minimum of two years in newly charred American oak barrels with no added flavors or coloring.

California Cowboy Whiskey is proud to give back and be a voice for America’s wild horses. They have partnered with the Wild Horse Sanctuary in Shingletown, California, which has been rescuing unwanted wild horses since 1978. With a mission to protect and preserve America’s wild horses as a living national treasure, the sanctuary provides 5,000 acres of lush mountain meadow and forest land for these animals to live out their days. With every purchase of California Cowboy products, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to help preserve and give a home to wild horses.

Moonshine Bandits are a national touring band with over 200,000,000 YouTube views and Billboard charting Country albums that have debuted at the top of iTunes and Amazon charts. The group’s blue-collar work ethic and unwavering persistence have helped them land the #1 spot on CMT.com and garnered press attention from the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, Yahoo, Kerrang!, Loudwire, Taste of Country, and the Digital Journal. Connecting with fans on all levels, Moonshine Bandits have built a solid “Shiner Nation” of loyal fans, established Operation Packing Company, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that specializes in sending supplies to our Troops overseas, produced beef jerky and legal moonshine. Brad Paisley to Launch ‘American Highway’ Bourbon

December 2, 2021 by evebushman

BARDSTOWN, Ky., /PRNewswire/ — Global country music superstar Brad Paisley will launch “American Highway” Bourbon this month, a whiskey aged in barrels stored in a 53-foot semi-trailer that followed his 2019 nation-wide tour for 7,314 miles across 25 states, from coast to coast.

Global country music superstar Brad Paisley launches “American Highway” Bourbon

“Bourbon is like songwriting, it’s a blend of things coming together to make something incredible,” said Paisley. “These are really special barrels that saw more of the United States than most people I know.”

The fluctuating climate of the barrels’ journey expanded and contracted their staves, imparting oak and char that cultivate the characteristics flavors of America’s native spirit. This well-traveled batch was then blended with three-year, 13-year and 15-year-old Kentucky bourbons to create the final product. The next batch, to be released in 2022, was aged on the Rolling Rickhouse during Paisley’s 2021 tour.

Paisley sums up the creative process that derived his bourbon: “It’s so similar to what goes into a great guitar. The right woods, the right craftsmanship, the right alchemy that makes this intangible, magical thing, and that’s what makes this so great to me.”

“American Highway’s” literal path-to-market wasn’t the only unique aspect of its creation: Rather than just sourcing whiskey and lending a celebrity name to it, Paisley worked closely with award-winning bourbon distiller Bardstown Bourbon Company to create the final blend. Located in Bardstown, Kentucky the “Bourbon Capitol of the World,” this modern bourbon distiller creates custom whiskey, bourbon and rye for more than 30 different brand-owners worldwide and has won critical acclaim for its releases.

Paisley collaborated with a team of experts at Bardstown, including VP of New Product Development Dan Callaway. “You don’t get to see many celebrities that have such a technical palate,” shared Callaway. “It was a super collaboration that resulted in a travelled bourbon in an exemplary expression.”

Callaway describes the bourbon as “A blend of four rye-forward bourbons ranging in age from 3 to 15 years. The flavor profile is incredibly unique. Subtle, complex, spicy, well-traveled. As we like to say, it was, ‘born in Kentucky, aged across America’.”

With just 30,000 bottles of the initial release produced, the 96-proof blend has a suggested retail price of $99.99. The bourbon will be available in AL, CA, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, MS, NC, NV, NY, OH, TN, TX, WI and WV, and exclusively online through www.seelbachs.com.

The stats:
Proof: 96 / ABV 48%
Mashbill: 28% 3YO 71/21/0/9; 25% 3YO 60/36/0/4; 24% 13YO 74/18/0/8; 23% 15YO 78.5/13/0/8.5
Suggested Retail Price: $99.99 per 750ml bottle

Happy Hour Etiquette: A Round Up

November 26, 2021 by evebushman

I recently asked this question on social media, more or less, “Is it okay or tacky to order a second cocktail when you haven’t finished your first during a Happy Hour?” Below is a roundup of answers from Facebook pals that may help you if you’ve ever had the same question:

Derek A: Ehh, tacky shmaky. Lol I needs my medicine!!

KJ: I do it. I think they use the cheaper booze & mixes at HR so it’s ok.

Toni P: I totally understand what you’re saying. Guess maybe it depends on the restaurant. The bartenders at a couple of my happy hour go-to’s, usually offer a last call for food and drink, even before people are done. It’s a way to get a little more business, plus I’m a really good tipper, so that’s probably an incentive.

Les H: I do it too.

Marleen R: I agree with most above. It’s a great way to push for patrons to buy another, which is more money for the business. It’s a win win for all!

Michelle T: I don’t really pay attention to the “happy hour” hours. I just order another one when the waiter asks or if I’m getting low.

Kai H: I don’t think it’s tacky if you tip generously. It’s worse to sit for an hour and nurse just one drink and leave a buck tip.

Eric F: I like to tip more for attitude adjustment hour… after all, I saved on the food and drink, and the servers were probably busier.

Donny T: Order away. They’ve factored in the costs and on alcohol sales it’s pretty good. Plus if you’re a little warmed up you’ll splurge at the table. And you can always tip extra to make up for the discount if you’re feeling guilty. Just know that if you tip greater than 25% on your card it charges the business a significantly higher processing fee due to a card brand setting called “tip tolerance,” so heavy tippers should consider cash.

Scott K: I drink whisk(e)y, neat. Never a problem finishing one with a quick swallow. I paid $10 for a Maker’s yesterday at my hotel bar in Mendocino. I have no problem taking advantage of discounts.

Diane R: We’ve been trying to eat out at our favorite restaurants and make sure we add a little extra to the tips too.

Sonja R: My experience is that many bartenders tell you it’s almost over and they usually offer another. And I tip well.

Haydee S: Not tacky at all!! Happy hour is supposed to bring in people during a slow time so your orders are helping!! Order away!!

Gary W: Such a slippery slope for the past two years. I can’t believe as many bars and restaurants survived. Can’t wait until they are all back to full strength and serving happy hours as usual.

Caren C: I don’t have any problem ordering before times up, but it depends.

Robin A: I don’t think so as long as you tip well.

Vashti R: You always treat your server well.

Elaine H: No!! We do it all the time.

Barry S: I do understand your perspective. When I do order w/discounts, I always tip heavily and end up paying the full price. It’s just that the money goes to the bartender.

Dorothy D: I don’t think it’s tacky! My server often asks us if we want one more before happy hour is over!

Cathy M: I’m not much of a “happy hour” person anymore. Pre-Covid, when I’ve ordered a drink, I’ve received a watered down drink, to the point that I’m questioning if there is any alcohol in my glass. Or the other no no, why did my glass arrive so packed full of ice that I can’t fit a straw in it? I’ll order a glass of wine/bottle or a bottle/pitcher of beer. I always tip in cash. The IRS keeps track of the credit card sales of each server. They assume you give a 15% tip. They tax them accordingly on income received as tips. I give at least 20% cash when I use my credit card. I write “zero tip” on the credit card receipt so they can’t be questioned about it, by anyone.

Debbie M: We do it.

Tamar H: Oh come on! The drinks are like 5 times what they cost so if I can get them for 3x, then you bet your ass I’m gonna do that! Just tip on the full price, as usual!

Phil H: In many places the bartenders make a final pass to ask if anyone needs a “last call” before happy hour ends. They’re happy to sell you one more discounted drink rather than have you drink up and leave. I’m ok with “loading up” and so is the establishment!

Me, in response to Donny T above: Donny, as a consultant for bars, wineries and restaurants I know this. Surely others here don’t so thanks. But I will tell you some of my clients got rid of their happy hours as it did cost them.
