Press: email news regarding LV restaurants, bars + wineries to Eve@EveWine101.com

In the fall of 2020 we purchased a home in Las Vegas in a community called Spanish Trail located in Spring Valley, 10 minutes from the strip.  At the same time, I started posting reviews and photos of the experiences we have been having in the Las Vegas dining/drinking scene. As they are known for impeccable service, we have rarely been disappointed. So recently I decided to share some of our experiences, and news from Las Vegas press agents, here on our website.

If you are a fan of Vegas, travel, dining, and drinking – I hope you enjoy this page. For more photos/videos go to my Instagram account.

Henderson, NV (April 24, 2024) – Social Station Kitchen & Cocktails, Henderson’s soon-to-be new neighborhood hangout, will begin serving up elevated American comfort food and genuine hospitality this May. Designed “for locals by locals”, the 2500-square-foot restaurant and bar will feature a spacious indoor dining area, 10 seat bar, and inviting outdoor patio perfect for alfresco dining.

Vegas Unstripped Chef Festival Moves To Spring & Moves To Palms Casino Resort

Unique Event Gathers Las Vegas’ Citywide Culinary Stars

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 11, 2024) – The Feast of Friends has announced the return of the Vegas Unstripped food festival this spring, with a notable new home. This year, the event is planned to take place from 7-10 p.m on Saturday May 18 at the Palms Casino Resort. March 2024: Las Vegas Mayor Goodman Awards Chef James Trees ‘Key To The City’

March 28, 2024 is declared ‘James Trees Day’ in the City of Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 28, 2024) – Today, Mayor Goodman joined Councilwoman Olivia Diaz and Las Vegas Arts District President Becky Miller in honoring Chef James Trees with a proclamation and the official Key to the City of Las Vegas. Mayor Goodman acknowledged Chef Trees’ dedication to the Arts District and the City and praised the opening of the new, enlarged Esther’s Kitchen, keeping the popular restaurant in downtown.

“Over the past 25 years, we have been very careful to whom we gift a key to the fabulous city of Las Vegas,” said Mayor Goodman. “James has not only given us the joy of his cooking, and taught others how to cook. but is also committed to charity. So we’re giving him one of the very few keys to Las Vegas.”

“Getting the Key to the City is wild!” said Chef Trees. “We’re so lucky to be part of this city. I believe in the next 10 to 15 years the Arts District will set the standard for what a neighborhood in Las Vegas should feel like.”

Chef Trees went on to praise the City government, Arts District neighbors, contractors Trinity Haven and his entire team.

Replacing the original location on California Street (1130 Casino Center Dr.), the new Esther’s Kitchen location opened on March 8, 2024 at 1131 South Main Street in the Las Vegas Arts District and has been packed every day since. The new Esther’s offers 187 seats including 28 bar seats in a 10,432 square foot space–in total more than three times the capacity of the original location. Trees was adamant about keeping the restaurant in the Arts District, waiting for the perfect opportunity to present itself, as the new location is literally steps away from the original.

About James Trees & Esther’s Kitchen

Fresh, Seasonal, Local, Simple. These ideas shouldn’t be uncommon in the restaurant world, but are far too often overlooked. For Chef James Trees, after scaling some of the most impressive heights in the restaurant business with a who’s-who of celebrity chefs (from Michael Mina to Gordon Ramsay, Eric Ripert and many others), no ambition was calling him more than bringing it all back home. Esther’s Kitchen, named for the Great Aunt who was Chef James’ first mentor, is nothing more–and nothing less–than a local restaurant inspired by its Las Vegas Arts District neighborhood to elevate the simple, and simplify elegance. Grounded in the ingredient-driven cuisine of Italy, pastas, breads and nearly everything possible are made in-house; produce and proteins come from the best local sources available; wines are chosen for intrigue and value; cocktails are mixed to please you, not a bartender’s ego. It’s a restaurant you’ll want to call home.

Esther’s Kitchen has been fortunate to receive a number of accolades since opening including Gayot top 10 new restaurants in the US, 2018; 10 Best Las Vegas Restaurants and #1 Best Italian (USA Today). Best Italian in Las Vegas nods from Gayot.com, Thrillist and Desert Companion magazine; and “Best New Neighborhood Mindblower” from Las Vegas Weekly. TripAdvisor named it a worldwide Travelers Choice in 2020 and #15 “Hidden Gems” in the US in 2022. Yelp selected Esther’s pizza as one of the Top 100 in the US, 2023. Thrillist has also tapped it as one of the best Italian restaurants in the country.

Chef James Trees has been recognized as “Chef of the Year – 2019” by the Nevada Restaurant Association “Executive Chef of the Year, 2019” by the Silver State Awards, “Chef of the Moment” by VEGAS magazine and “Chef of the Year” for the Desert Companion 2021 Restaurant Awards. Trees was also selected as a Finalist for the James Beard Award: Best Chef Southwest 2020.

February 2024: Esther’s Kitchen Announces Opening Date For Main Street Location

Las Vegas Arts District Restaurant Will Offer Three Times The Original Seating

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (February 29, 2024) – Chef/Owner James Trees has announced the opening date for the new Esther’s Kitchen location at 1131 South Main Street in the Las Vegas Arts District. The new Esther’s will open for dinner, weekday lunch and weekend brunch beginning Friday, March 8, 2024. Reservations information will be made available via Esther’s Kitchen social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok: @estherskitchenlv, X: @LVEsthers) on March 6.

Replacing the original location on California Street (1130 Casino Center Dr.) which closed Feb. 28 2024, the restaurant will now offer 187 seats including 28 bar seats in a 10,432 square foot space–in total more than three times the capacity of the original location.

“We are really excited to provide the same neighborhood, seasonal experience for our guests that we have been doing for six years,” said Trees, “Only now, we won’t have to turn anyone away.”

Taking over a 1940s-vintage corrugated steel and concrete building that previously housed the Retro Vegas vintage store, the new Esther’s Kitchen will be a continuation of the seasonal Italian & craft cocktails restaurant which has been a popular favorite for locals and visitors alike–and a consistent award winner–since opening in 2018. In most recent years, reservations have frequently booked out weeks in advance, creating the demand for a larger space. Trees was adamant about keeping the restaurant in the Arts District, waiting for the perfect opportunity to present itself, as the new location is literally steps away from the original.

While staying faithful to the spirit of the original, the new Esther’s will offer several new exciting features including a vastly improved entrance experience, live pasta making and wood fired pizza stations, a private dining room with approx 55 seats, and a wraparound bar including window bar rails with a view of Main & California. The new kitchen will include a wood fired hearth, adding some large format entrees to the menu, and a full professional baking suite. An additional loft bar experience will open at a later date.

Decor by Amanda Trees will include walnut countertops, tufted dining chairs in buckskin and English pub blue, bespoke wall coverings include vintage mid century breeze block-style accents and reclaimed wood, hand built wainscotting, and chandeliers recalling twirled pasta. A rear hallway pays tribute to the first six years of Esther’s with a collage of menus beneath framed awards. Yellow banquettes and a wall size print of the Venice, CA pier recall the original Esther’s decor, while the pizza oven is covered in a mosaic of Esther’s floor tiles.

Chef Trees will be joined on the management team by Executive Chef Sean O’Hara, Director of Operations Keith Bracewell, General Manager David Klarer, Event Coordinator Gatsby Darwin, Bar Manager Tucker St. John.

February 2024: Wynn Las Vegas Announces Safta 1964 by Chef Alon Shaya

The Limited-Run Residency Introduces a New Spin on the Michelin-Recognized Restaurant, Safta, to Las Vegas this Spring

LAS VEGAS – Wynn Las Vegas announces an exciting celebrity chef residency debuting this Spring: Safta 1964 by Chef Alon Shaya (Safta 1964) from Pomegranate Hospitality, led by restaurateur Emily Shaya and James Beard Foundation Award winning Chef-Partner Alon Shaya. Located within Jardin at Wynn Las Vegas and serving Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, Safta 1964 will feature a new, limited-run version of the duo’s acclaimed restaurant, Safta–which was recently recognized by Colorado’s first Michelin Guide. The residency represents a full-circle moment for Shaya, with a return to Vegas where he got his start right out of culinary school more than 20 years ago.

The playful iteration of Safta–which means “grandmother” in Hebrew–is intended to be a prequel to Shaya’s Denver restaurant of the same name, celebrating the Grandma’s fictional heyday, before she

became a safta/grandmother. Picture her dressed to the nines, complete with her signature red lipstick, driving her white 1964 Thunderbird convertible west and toasting the town. She’s the magnetic life of the party, sipping martinis and running the blackjack table. Her nights off the Strip are just as exciting, throwing lavish dinner parties for the ‘60s Vegas era glitterati–it’s the guest list to be on.

Safta 1964’s menu will channel her spirit with fun iterations of classic dishes from Safta’s Denver location, as well as new offerings exclusive to Las Vegas from a chef’s tasting to salatim platters, large-format dishes for the table, caviar add-ons, signature tableside dessert service, and more. Design elements call on our heroine’s aesthetic, with floral touches, glitzy details, and a bold, retro color scheme.

“It means so much to us to join Wynn Las Vegas for this culinary residency alongside its all-star lineup of restaurants,” says Shaya. “My time cooking in Vegas early in my career really cemented my passion for cooking professionally. Safta 1964 will be all about creating the ultimate dinner party, evoking what Safta would have been like in her 20s during the 1960s – think hummus topped with truffles and beef tartare decked out with caviar. We’re going to have a lot of fun!”

Safta 1964 will be open for dinner Thursday-Monday nights and feature some of Safta’s cult-favorite Mediterranean-style dishes, with new additions exclusive to Wynn Las Vegas. Highlights include fresh milled wheat pita alongside Hummus with Warm Buttered Black Truffles; Whole Roasted Cauliflower with Whipped Feta, Argan Oil, and Aleppo Chili; stunners like King Crab Tagine with Hand-Rolled Couscous; and Pomegranate-Braised Lamb Shank with Almond Tabbouleh and Labneh; and options for Osetra caviar and black truffle additions to dishes like Grass-Fed Beef Tartare with Baharat Spice and a Bone-In Rib-Eye with Black Garlic Harissa, respectively. Desserts include Labneh Donuts with Persian Cherry Jam; Chocolate Tahini Pie with Toasted Marshmallow; and a playful signature dessert served tableside.

Cocktails are thoughtful, and many pull in flavors from the dinner menu, with highlights such as a Gazoz Tower, overflowing with spiked Gazoz cocktails garnished with abundant herbs and flowers in flavors such as Cucumber Agave, Blueberry Sage, and Pomegranate Ginger. Other cocktails shine in vintage vessels, cocktail-finishing aromatics are sprayed from antique perfume bottles, and more, with selections like Nana’s Martini with Vodka, Dolin Blanc, Grapefruit Bitters and Pickled Onion; Dionysius Revival with Tequila, Ancho Chili, Cucumber, Agave and Aleppo Pepper; The French Butterfly with Mandarin Vodka, Aperol, Orange Blossom, Lemon, and Egg White; and Language of Flowers with Gin, Chamomile, Lavender and Lemon.

Additional details may be found here, and reservations beginning April 4 here.

Ernest Gantt (later Donn Beach) serving at the original Hollywood Don The Beachcomber’s.

About Don The Beachcomber

Born Feb. 22, 1907, Donn Beach, born Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt, would be 117 if alive today. A Texas native, Gantt traveled the Caribbean and South Pacific, briefly working as a bootlegger, before opening the original Don’s Beachcomber in Hollywood in 1933. He is credited with creating cocktails including the Zombie, Tahitian Rum Punch, one version of the Mai Tai, and the Navy Grog (ironically, Gantt was a Major in the Air Force) among many others. Eventually, he would create the Polynesian Villages and original International Marketplace in Waikiki; be instrumental in the careers of Martin Denny, Alfred Apaka, and Arthur Lyman; and see a string of Don The Beachcomber bars and restaurants open across the United States (although he did not retain ownership). He said his final ‘aloha’ in 1989.

FLORIDA, CALIFORNIA and NEVADA– Feb. 16, 2024 – Sir Rod Stewart is celebrating the launch of Wolfie’s Blended Scotch Whisky in Florida, California and Nevada this February. The rock legend touched down in New York with an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Feb. 8, with Rod, Kelly and her house band toasting the whisky’s U.S. expansion. Rod will next stop in Florida for three shows on Feb. 13 and 14 at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL and Feb. 16 at the Seminole Hard Rock Event Center in Tampa, FL. Fans can tune-in on 2/22 when he takes Access Hollywood to his favorite U.S. pub, The Long Acre, for a final toast before heading back to the UK to celebrate the launch of his upcoming album, Swing Fever, out Feb. 23

Designed to reflect Rod’s rock ‘n’ roll heritage with subtle nods to Americana, Wolfie’s is now available in 73 Total Wine & More stores throughout Florida and California and will be served in step with his concerts at both Seminole Hard Rock properties in Florida. It’s also available at Florida independent retailers Leuken’s Wine & Spirits and ABC Fine Wine & Spirits in the state. In Nevada, Wolfie’s will be rolling-out distribution at Lee’s Discount Liquor, Nevada’s largest independent retailer and Caesars Palace, where Rod will conclude his record-breaking 13-year residency on it 200th concert show this July and August.

“Florida, California and Las Vegas have been second homes to me for many years,” Rod Stewart remarked. “I look forward to sharing a toast of Wolfie’s with my fans there soon.”

Duncan Frew, Rod’s co-founder in Wolfie’s, said:

“Expanding into these states is a huge milestone for Wolfie’s and one we’re both very excited about and taking very seriously. We’ve had a phenomenal seven months since launching in summer last year and have an ambitious 2024 ahead of us.”

Distilled on the banks of Loch Lomond by an expert team with decades of whisky-making know-how, Wolfie’s Blended Scotch Whisky is a 40% ABV blended Scotch which perfectly marries grain whisky and malt whiskies, resulting in a lightly peated, smooth final blend. Wonderfully balanced with flavors of warming cinnamon, fresh vanilla, and baked apple, it has delicate notes of sweet peat and pears in syrup before finishing with candied citrus peels and a gentle oak spice.

Referencing the opening track from Rod’s 1991 album Vagabond Heart, the lyrics ‘Rhythm of My Heart’ are emblazoned on the base of the bottle. Rod’s recording of the song was a nod to his own Scottish heritage having adapted the melody from the traditional folk song, Loch Lomond.

Wolfie’s is available for shipping to all states excluding Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, South Dakota, Tennesse & Utah via online orders via wolfieswhisky.com.

About Wolfie’s Whisky:

Launching in 2023, Wolfie’s Whisky is a 40% ABV blended Scotch whisky distilled in partnership with Rod Stewart. Wolfie’s Blended Scotch Whisky is distilled, blended, and bottled by Loch Lomond Distillery. From left to right: Owners Sarah and Nick Palmeri, Master Sommelier Joseph Phillips

About Joseph Phillips

Master Sommelier Joe Phillips traces his love of wine back to two distinct individuals: a college professor who not only introduced him to fine wine but also to Irish stout and Chinatown in Boston, and a restaurant manager who was fixated on the thought of devoting an entire refrigerator to storing wine (before the proliferation of dedicated “wine fridges”). These outside influences lured Joe out of his sheltered, East Coast upbringing and tapped into his sense of adventure. Once he caught the wine-and-food bug, there was no turning back. Before he realized what was happening, he was stalking used bookstores, scouring the racks for any texts that were related to wine.

Joe, who was part of the opening team for the Bellagio Resort in Las Vegas, became a Master Sommelier during his career there. He is an active examiner and educator for the Court of Master Sommeliers and a Certified Educator through the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET). He previously managed award-winning wine programs for Aqua, Sensi, and Michael Mina. Joe left the Bellagio to become the Director of Wine for the MGM Grand Resort in Las Vegas. Currently Joe is a Director of Product Education for Southern Glazer’s Wine, Spirits, and Beer of Nevada and makes frequent guest appearances at many venues in Las Vegas, Reno, and UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality.

January 2024: What’s the best Happy Hour you’ve been to in Las Vegas? It’s going to be hard to beat Jing in Summerlin! The “Signature Cocktails” from their menu are all only $9 from 4-6pm daily! Our HH cocktails were batched – Honey Ginger Manhattan in the Martini glass and the Jing Old Fashioned on the rock – and de-licious! And on top of that, there are some great menu items too. Some of the dishes we had were full orders – the Yellowtail Serrrano and Rock Shrimp Tempura – and not the Happy Hour size. We also had Lobster Dynamite and Shishito Peppers. It was all just perfect for us as we had spent the afternoon shopping, skipped lunch, and we got there at 5pm and didn’t a reservation! Service was courteous and quick, and the atmosphere gorgeous! Will be back!

January 2024: New question: Have you been to either the Wax Rabbit speakeasy or Miho Mexican – where the speakeasy is hidden inside? Both are in the new Durango resort and yes, we did both! We loved the look of the speakeasy, and we got seats at the bar, but if you plan to go reservations are best. Drinks included a Lemon Drop, Mexican Mule, Hendrick’s gin Martini, and Cadillac Margarita. We also enjoyed our first meal at Miho – starting with Hamachi (halibut) served Carpaccio style, and our main dishes included savory Quesabirria Tacos with a delicious consommé for dipping, perfectly made Chicken Suiza Enchiladas, flavorful Carne Asada Fajitas and grilled chicken tacos. We will be back to both the speakeasy and the restaurant!

January 2024: Do you know about the new Brunch at Gaetano’s in Henderson? We were lucky enough to attend a preview yesterday to see the menu and try a few of their new items. I started with a delectable sippable Sbagliato made with prosecco, vermouth and Campari while Eddie went for the San Marzano Bloody Mary that was decorated with spicy salami and Castelvetrano olives! Then Eddie ordered the Eggs in Purgatory with yummy shredded short ribs and I had to have the Panini Mortadella – owner Nick Palmeri had sliced the Mortadella fresh for it! While other guests took several Instagram-worthy photos of many more dishes (menu items listed below) we just couldn’t imagine eating more! The Sunday brunch begins January 14, so I suggest you get your reservations now!

January 2024: Have you been to the new Fontainebleau Las Vegas? Honestly, I have a hard time just spelling the name correctly! LOL! Friends from CA were visiting so we took them to the strip to see our latest hotel and casino. The place is very open looking – from the very grand lobby through to the casino floor, with beautiful chandeliers, large bars + restaurants, artwork and my favorite bathroom sign for the ladies too! We took an escalator to the second floor for the views, but also to chat it up with one of the elevator hosts. He told us that the top floors housed one full suite each and came with a butler and dog walker!
