Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the Breckenridge Wine Classic is a three-day festival anchored by the two-day Grand Tasting in addition to unique seminars such as a guided hike and pairing with master winemakers, wine dinners planned by world-class sommeliers, and more than 100 wineries, breweries, distilleries, and epicurean purveyors at this ultimate food, wine and sensory experience.

“The Breckenridge Wine Classic is the accessible wine festival with world-class offerings nestled in the mountains that we always wanted to see,” said Breckenridge Wine Classic Festival Events and Marketing Director Kristen Horpedahl. “With pricing starting at $75, it’s an affordable, yet highly desirable destination, for a weekend getaway with friends, bachelorette party, couples’ trip and more.”

The 2022 Breckenridge Wine Classic, celebrating its eighth year, includes:

  • The Grand Tasting, Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17: The Classic’s Grand Tasting features an impressive selection of hundreds of domestic and international wines, plus premium craft beer and spirits. • Pairings & Seminars, all weekend: Ticketed seminars play into a variety of interests and activities. You could take a hike with a winemaker followed by a paired lunch; learn the basics of wine pairing at home; or taste why the wine glass really does make all the difference.

“Whether you are a full-fledged foodie or an emerging gourmand, you are sure to find more than one event to whet your appetite at the wine classic,” said Slater. “There is something for everyone – from tastings next to a Rocky Mountain backdrop, to deeply educational seminars and luncheons, to outdoor adventures with food and wine influences, there are tastes and temptations at every turn.”

More details regarding the seminars and events will be released closer to the festival. Volunteer applications will open in June.

100 Percent Cork Survey Reveals That Cork Closures Seal 91 Percent of the World’s Top Wines

January 11, 2022 by evebushman

NEW YORK (PRWEB) – According to a recent survey conducted on behalf of 100% Cork and APCOR (The Portuguese Cork Association), 91 percent of the world’s top wines selected by Wine Spectator in 2021 are sealed with cork closures. The survey also revealed that of the 33 domestic wines selected, 31 were sealed with cork (94 percent), while 60 of the 67 imported wines that made the Wine Spectator list were also sealed with cork closures (89.5 percent).

100% Cork has conducted surveys of the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 every year since 2016, with cork closure usage historically ranging from between 84% to 90% of the wines selected for the list. 2021 represents the highest number recorded since tracking began.

“Given the incredible natural properties of cork, it makes sense that the majority of the best wines from around the world are sealed with cork,” says Carlos de Jesus, operational director of the InterCork program of APCOR. “Its lightness, elasticity, carbon sequestration, and ability to provide consistent oxygen transfer to help with wine’s evolution, are just a few of cork’s characteristics.”

Cork closures continue to be the market leader for the wine market in the U.S., highlighted by significant growth in both sales and market share over the past decade. Between 2010 and 2020, case sales of cork finished wines among the top 100 premium brands increased 97 percent compared to 6 percent for alternative closures, according to Nielsen. During the last ten years, market share of premium cork finished wines jumped from 47 percent to 67.6 percent.

Natural cork closures have a negative carbon balance when used to seal wines bottled in glass containers, according to recent studies conducted by three of the world’s largest auditing companies. A single stopper has a balance of up to – 309 grams of CO2; numbers for sparkling wine stoppers go even higher at up to – 589 grams.

As a renewable and natural product, cork is harvested without damaging or cutting down the trees, which live for 200 years or longer. During its lifetime a cork oak tree can absorb 20 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere while producing up to 65,000 corks. Through sustainable harvesting, the cork industry is helping to fight climate change by preserving Europe’s largest oak forests from deforestation, while also providing high-paying jobs for agricultural farmers.

Since 1988, Wine Spectator has released its annual Top 100 list, selecting the best wines from the thousands reviewed during the year. According to the magazine, the criteria used to create this highly-regarded, annual list focus on quality, value, availability and excitement.

The information collected in this survey was conducted through individual phone calls and emails to the wineries, importers and distributors listed in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List of 2021.

For more information about APCOR, visit http://www.apcor.pt and http://www.100percentcork.org. You can follow APCOR and the 100% Cork campaign on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. For questions about APCOR, please contact Augustus Weed or Leah Isenberg at Colangelo & Partners.

Buzz Pop Cocktails Wins Gold Medal

August 29, 2019 by evebushman

TAMPA BAY, Fla. (PRWEB) – More than 30 spirit industry leaders and upwards of 500 spirits brands participated in the inaugural PR%F Awards and PR%F Awards Design Distinction during a two-day blind-tasting point-rating competition in Las Vegas June 16-18, 2019.

Our brand Buzz Pop Cocktails was awarded a GOLD medal by achieving an overall 90 out of 100 points, at the 2019 PR%F Awards, a spirits competition designed to crown the leading spirits with accolades, recognition and an entryway into the marketplace. The event was held at Tivoli Village in Las Vegas.

The awards competition was open to spirits brands, domestic and international, with nearly 100 categories to enter. All entries were rated on a proprietary 100-point system crowning medals to those who scored 70 points or above. (Bronze: 70 – 79 (Daily Drinker); Silver: 80-89 (Praise); Gold: 90-95 (Highly Recommended); Double Gold: 96-99 (Superlative) and Century Award: 100 Points-A Perfect Score (Highest Honor, Unparalleled, Peerless.)

“It was a remarkable two days of introducing new spirits brands to buyers and collectively discussing the current trends of the beverage industry with the most talented minds in the industry,” said Michele D. Tell, Executive Director of the PR%F Awards. “We are honored to have crowned so many brands with medals and accolades, and to honor the top five rated as ‘perfect’ with a Century Award,” she said. “We look forward to continuing our PR%F Awards program in the Summer of 2020.”

The idea behind the PR%F Awards was to create an avenue to introduce spirits brands to key decision makers in the liquor industry, and therefore, all PR%F judges were mainstream liquor buyers, distributors, and industry leaders with buying decision capability. Our judges hailed from 11 different states and hospitality arenas – Delta Sky Clubs/Delta Airlines, Young’s Market Company, The Sugar Factory, Hard Rock International, Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, Spec’s, Breakthru Beverage Group, Good Spirits Distribution, BevStrat, Inc., Liquid Distributors-GA, Burke Distribution, RLED, LLC, Caesars Palace, Boyd Gaming, Sheraton, ARK 1521, The Strat Casino Hotel & Tower, Downtown Project-DTP, Alicart Restaurant Group (Carmine’s Italian, Virgil’s BBQ), Giordano’s Pizza-Corporate and Marque Media.

“The beverage industry is ever-changing and we saw those trends firsthand with the amount of flavored whiskeys, ready-serve cocktails, gins and organic/kosher and health-based products that entered the PR%F Awards 2019,” said Michael S. Politz, publisher of Food and Beverage Magazine, title sponsor of the PR%F Awards. “I was especially pleased to see how many women-owned brands entered this year. It’s an exciting time to be a part of the beverage industry,” he said.

Buzz Pop Cocktails is proud to be the world’s only all-natural Adult Push-Pop focusing on being Vegan, Gluten free, fat free and certified Kosher.

“It is an honor and we are very humbled to take home the gold for our #1 flavor Buzz Pop,” said Joseph Isaacs, founder & CEO of Buzz Pop Cocktails. “This is the 2nd award this month. Earlier we were rated #1 alcoholic popsicle by the Huffington Post,” he adds.

Will You Join us for the Valencia Wine Company Holiday Wine Tasting? It’s Their 12th Time!

November 6, 2015 by evebushman

There is one annual event that my husband Eddie and I have never missed in the past 11 years, even the one year it had to be postponed a week due to a shut down of the 5 freeway:

The classiest annual holiday wine tasting is at our very own, locally owned, Valencia Wine Company on Towne Center Drive in the Westfield Valencia Mall. This year the event will be held on the afternoon of Saturday November 14 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. (You can stop in the wine bar or call to reserve a ticket: 661-254-9300.)

vwc info on holiday bannerUnique Tasting/Eating/Educational Opportunity

Guests will have plenty of time to taste wine from both domestic and imported sources – see our growing wine list below.

All of the wines will be paired with both savory and sweet treats catered by the one and only Martha Aguilera, owner of Kokolita.

Besides having the three hours to taste wine and food, guests will have a special treat – education, if desired, from the winery representatives.

George Skorka – a wine representative serving during the event, that so happens to have a stellar wine pedigree as a sommelier and wine judge – has been devoted to Valencia Wine Company’s education program for many years. This is an event that guests look forward to as it’s an opportunity to learn and taste with George.

The many wine representatives that will join George are very educated about the wines they are serving, so it’s pretty much a sure thing that if you want to learn more about what you are tasting, you will!

One more thing: You should be able to get some of your necessary holiday shopping done! Each guest is given a tasting booklet that is several pages long; listing out all of the wines and their prices. And though my husband usually goes for a case (there is always a nice discount for buying a full case) I can’t be positive that all of the wine we purchase will be gifted to others.

Keep your eyes peeled to the Facebook event page for Valencia Wine Co.’s 12th Annual Holiday Tasting because…I will be posting teasers there until the event takes place on November 14!
