Well, this sounded like a treat: reviewing a blended scotch whisky that the one and only Rod Stewart has partnered with? Yes, please! When it was my turn to receive the bottle, it arrived with a clatter! What? As seen in the photo the whisky came in a small silver metal suitcase, enrobed in plenty of padding and ready for me to crack open. Below you will find this fan girl’s review, and below that some information on Wolfie’s Whisky along with a cocktail recipe in honor of the upcoming Whisky Sour Day on August 25.
Review
Noted a dark amber and gold color that coated the glass completely. The aromas were sweet: butterscotch candy, caramel popcorn, Bananas Foster, surrounded by a lightly toasted oak. The taste was very smooth, with a rich mouth-coating viscosity and not too much heat so I didn’t need to add any water. It was all honey, butterscotch, and spice. I felt this is a “gateway” whisky for anyone new to brown spirits because of its sweetness. And of course, with the attachment to Rod Stewart the bottle is a conversation piece as well.

Whisky Sour Day Recipe
Two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Rod Stewart is saying cheers to National Whisky Sour Day on Aug. 25 and sharing the recipe for his Ooh La La cocktail, a Wolfie’s twist on the New York Sour. Made with his (recently) launched Wolfie’s Whisky, the tart, slightly sweet, and perfectly warming cocktail starts with a classic whisky sour base, with the silky texture of egg whites and finishes with a float of red wine.
Named after the title track to the fourth and final studio album by the Faces, the legendary rock band which launched the careers of Rod and his lifelong mate Ronnie Wood, the Ooh La La is a cocktail worthy of their early rock ‘n roll hell raising days. Start by shaking Wolfie’s Whisky with lemon juice, simple syrup, Angoustura Bitters and an egg white and topping with a float of red wine producing a cocktail that’s stunning to the eyes and palate and might just have you singing, “I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger… Ooh la la.”
INGREDIENTS:
- 50ml Wolfie’s Whisky
- 25ml Lemon Juice
- 12ml Sugar Syrup
- 2 x Dash Angoustura Bitters
- 1 Egg White
- Top Up / Layer of Red Wine
GARNISH:
Lemon wheel
INSTRUCTIONS:
Mix all the ingredients, except the red wine in a shaker and shake. Pour into a chilled glass and top with a float of Red Wine. Add the garnish and enjoy!
