Waterford Whisky To Appear On Upcoming New Season of Amazon Prime’s Global TV Series The Three Drinkers

December 8, 2021 by evebushman

NEW YORK (PRWEB) – Terroir-driven whisky producer, Waterford Whisky announced that it has partnered with Amazon Prime TV Series The Three Drinkers on their new series ‘The Three Drinkers in Ireland’, which will be airing globally on February 1, 2022. The Three Drinkers are drinks experts, writers and broadcasters Helena Nicklin and Aidy Smith, joined by a diverse revolving roster of ‘third drinker’ guests. The duo were joined by third drinker guests Beth Brickenden (episodes 1-3) and Eulanda Osagiede (episodes 4-6) on their latest adventure. This will be the second Three Drinkers TV series for Smith and Nicklin who also produce the popular ‘Bring a Bottle’ podcast, run the drink, travel and lifestyle-focused online magazine thethreedrinkers.com and have a growing social media/influencer presence.

Influenced by the world’s greatest winemakers, Waterford Whisky has sourced barley from nearly 100 individual farms, some of them organic and biodynamic. Their founder, Mark Reynier, was raised in the wine industry and ran one of premier London’s wine and spirits shops. In 2000, he resurrected the defunct Bruichladdich distillery in Islay, Scotland, and later sold it. Tapping into Mark’s background, Waterford Whisky carefully monitors each farm’s harvest and malts, mashes, ferments and distills the grains separately to bring out the character of each site.

Waterford Whisky, the largest producer of organic malt whisky in the world, has also recently released a few new exciting whiskys. First, The Cuvée, which is a Bordeaux inspired single malt that shakes up traditional whisky blending. 25 totally unique Waterford Single Farm Origin Whiskies, drawn from distinct terroirs of Southern Ireland, have been married together to create the ultimate layered, profound and compelling tasting experience. The second is Biodynamic: Luna, the world’s first whisky made from Biodynamic Irish barley. As part of its pioneering quest to unearth whisky’s most natural flavors, Waterford Distillery has introduced the radical biodynamic farming philosophy, as lauded by many of the world’s legendary winemakers, to the conservative whisky industry.

Smith said, “Being both wine and spirits experts, Helena and I were delighted to intertwine the two worlds during our visit to Waterford Distillery. To see first-hand how terroir has such an impact on the liquid inside the bottle really showcases the innovation of today’s Irish whisky industry. We can’t wait to share this discovery with our audience.”

In addition to Waterford Whisky, The Three Drinkers in Ireland will explore all sorts of drinks beyond delicious whisky, from gin and poitin to cider and Irish cream. They’ll also take a deeper dive into Ireland’s incredible food scene and will showcase some traditional activities such as bog snorkelling, cheesemaking, eel fishing and Irish dancing. The result is an escapist, gastronomic journey with a drinks hook through the picturesque island of Ireland that’s light-hearted and aspirational with plenty of take-home tips. It’s the perfect pour of armchair travel and feel-good entertainment.

Nicklin says, “We’ve loved bringing everything together here, from the food and drink, to the people, places, culture and tourism of the whole of the island of Ireland. We’ve been blown away by the sheer quality of Irish produce too. It’s world class! Ireland is also the perfect country to visit as the world opens up again, thanks to its wide open spaces and easy accessibility – and it’s a great location for lovers of fantastic food and drink to boot.”

About Waterford Whisky:
Waterford Whisky is on a quest to unearth whisky’s most natural flavors. Unashamedly influenced by the world’s greatest winemakers, Waterford brings the same intellectual drive, methodology and rigor to unearth the nuances that make Waterford Whisky the most profound single malt ever created. Across southern Ireland, warmed by the Gulf Stream, temperate, moist air crosses fertile soils to produce a verdant landscape and the world’s finest barley. Since barley is the source of malt whisky’s complex flavors, it makes abundant sense to focus on where and how the barley is cultivated. Those flavors are shaped by place, by the soils that nourish its roots, by the microclimate in which it ripens. By terroir. Waterford is a whisky of the world, born of Irish barley. About The Three Drinkers in Ireland:
The Three Drinkers in Ireland is a feel good, infotainment-style travelogue with a drinks hook that showcases the beauty of Irish gastro-tourism in all its glory. Road trip in style with just the right amount of knowledge thrown in, this armchair travel series follows Aidy, Helena (renowned drinks and lifestyle communicators) and their ‘third drinker’ guests on the ultimate, lifestyle journey through the unique and diverse landscapes of the Emerald Isle.

Along the way, they’ll scope out famous local landmarks and characterful locals before heading off to key stops on their tour of distilleries, orchards, country pubs and more via numerous points of interest, delicious food and unmissable scenery. Packed full of personality and flavor and using a blend of epic drone videography, natural, amusing in-car conversation and sweeping landscape shots, this is Ireland for a new, global audience.

Boulevardier or Negroni?

September 24, 2021 by evebushman

Have you had a Boulevardier or a Negroni before? Both have only three simple ingredients, and the only difference between the two is the base spirit – bourbon or rye in the former and gin in the latter. If you are a fan of either of these cocktails, or their base spirits, I think you would enjoy the other. First, a little bit of my experience of each:

The Negroni has been a favorite of mine for years. It is equal parts gin, Campari and sweet vermouth. I often make it up as an aperitif before dinner. I think the first time I had it might have been at Olive Terrace Bar and Grill when Jonathan Cross reigned supreme in the bar. If you are a gin fan and haven’t made it before I highly suggest that you give it a try.

I had my first Boulevardier at the High West Distillery in Salt Lake City, Utah, during a skiing trip with my family a few years ago. It came in a bottle, premade, and I liked it so much I bought a bottle to take home. Served it up to a few pals there, finished it and for some reason forgot about it and never had it again. I also never knew that the recipe was so simple.

Boulevardier recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ ounces bourbon or rye (I used bourbon as I wanted it to be smoky and not too sweet. For a Negroni the only difference is that it would be made with one ounce gin instead of the rye or bourbon as mentioned above. Don’t use your most special bottle as it will be mostly drowned out by the other ingredients. And, one last thing, I’ve been known to go 1 ¼ of gin in my Negroni too.)
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • Garnish: orange twist

Steps

  1. Add bourbon, Campari and sweet vermouth into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
  2. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  3. Garnish with an orange twist.

The recipe above is from Liquor.com – click their name for more history on the drink. I added the section in parenthesis.

Both cocktails won’t kill any budget. I happen to always have Campari and sweet vermouth in my refrigerator (remember to keep them there once opened) making it easy to put together when you feel like it. Now that I’ve made the Boulevardier, I like the idea of having either as an aperitif. Both have a nice bitter and sweet taste, and if I begin my night with the Boulevardier, I will enjoy a brown spirit on the rocks after dinner. If I begin with the Negroni I usually have a nice gin on the rocks with a little Vermouth or Lillet Blanc after dinner.

Which will you try?

High Praise for a New Line of Customizable Bottled Cocktails

August 8, 2021 by evebushman

COLLINGSWOOD, N.J., /PRNewswire/ — Brody’s, a line of customizable bottled cocktails that launched in May, has received high praise from both the consumer judged SIP Awards and the 12th annual New York International Spirits Competition (NYISC). This woman-owned beverage brand offers five flavors, available in select liquor stores in the Greater Philadelphia area and to 31 states via the brand’s eCommerce platform.

The brand, which received an innovation award from SIP Awards for their Minted Mule offering, has also collected the following accolades within its first month on the market.

  • Air Mail — rum infused with honey, lime and earthy aromatic bitters; Gold medal at SIP Awards.
  • Minted Mule — a minty mingle of vodka and spicy ginger with a splash of lime; Bronze Medal at SIP Awards
  • Touch of Grey — a bittersweet blend of gin, black tea, bergamot, black raspberry and honey; Bronze Medal at SIP Awards and a Bronze Medal from NYISC.
  • French 75 — bright juniper gin with a tart lemon kiss and a licorice finish; Silver Medal at SIP Awards
  • Black Orchid — a fresh bouquet of vodka, fruit and flowers; Double Gold at SIP Awards and a Silver Medal from NYISC.

The idea for Brody’s was born in co-founder Cristy Neunson’s kitchen out of the desire to create an easy consistent answer to crafting sparkling cocktails at home. Along with her husband John, and tenured beverage professional Ken Dee, they vetted the concept, and it soon became clear that they uncovered an opportunity in the ready-to-drink cocktail space.

“I’ve always gravitated toward champagne,” states Neunson. “But in recent years, I’ve found myself ordering sparkling cocktails as they’ve become increasingly popular on menus. When we put our heads together, we realized there was this white space between premium spirits and sparkling wine that we could fill,” she adds. “Knowing we wanted to create a multi-serve product that could be shared and wouldn’t fall flat, we incorporated the experiential element of encouraging consumers to choose their own adventure by adding the sparkling beverage of their choice.”

Brody’s comes to market during a period of strong growth and segmentation in the U.S. ready-to-drink cocktail category, at a time when consumers value experiential food and beverage products to enjoy at home. These expertly blended cocktails are best enjoyed chilled; topped with champagne, sparkling wine, club soda, tonic or ginger beer. Brody’s cocktails are available in 375 ml bottles, serve up to five cocktails each and vary in proof (16 – 25% alc/vol). Brody’s is currently retailed in the Greater Philadelphia area and to 31 states via their eCommerce platform with a suggested retail price of $14.99-$16.99 per bottle.

What Number Gin Is In? The 209th!

August 6, 2021 by evebushman

In just reading the front of the bottle I learned that NO 209 Gin is distilled in San Francisco, “5 X D” (five times distilled) with a 46% ABC and 91 proof. From the back I read that since 1882 they made their gin in the Napa Valley and are the 209th registered distillery that had opened in the United States. It’s a grain neutral spirit made from natural botanicals. And as I’m a gin lover, and the botanicals are what makes different gins of interest to me, I went to their website for more details.

And…the recipe is a secret. But I did learn that, “The delicious complexity of No. 209’s citrus spice flavor profile is primarily a result of bergamot orange, lemon peel, cardamom pods, cassia bark, angelica root and coriander seeds….”

My Tasting Notes

After opening and pouring a sample I noticed the juniper aromas, from about three or four inches away, but it wasn’t overpowering in any way. That just got me excited! Starting with a mild creamy component the citrus notes that were mentioned in the recipe – orange and lemon – were very apparent.

Then thinking about my spice rack here at home, as well as other botanicals and minerals, there were other aromas that reminded me of wet pebbles in a brook, vanilla bean, white pepper, dried pineapple, white chocolate and maybe even a squeeze of a red berry like raspberry or strawberry.

Tasting No 209 called up memories of a creamy 50/50 orange and vanilla ice cream Creamsicle bar – if said ice cream had booze in it! Also, one of those milk chocolate orange balls, a slice, as both flavors present. Ooh, this was different. There was a super long and satisfying finish to go with it too.

Thinking this would make a fine Gin and Tonic, as well as a sipper just over ice, and of course, an excellent Martini with either a cap of Dolin’s vermouth or Lillet Blanc. Ended up making a Martini on the rocks with a splash of La Quintinye Blanc Royal vermouth. Sipped on that for over an hour…

I did check the cocktail recipe section of their website and saw nearly three hundred recipes  – who knew there were that many – under their “Ginthusiast Guide.” The White Manhattan, Coin Flip, and a few others sounded tempting, and this one I thought I’d share:

Pineapple Gin Fizz

  • 1 1/2 Oz. No. 209 Gin
  • 1 Oz. Pineapple Juice
  • 3/4 Oz. Simple Syrup
  • 3/4 Oz. Lime Juice
  • 1/2 Oz. Egg White
  • 2 Oz. Tonic

Combine all ingredients except tonic and dry shake. Shake again with ice. Pour over ice, and top with Tonic Water. Garnish with pineapple fronds.

More To Taste

I went back to the website one last time and saw that they also have a Sauvignon Blanc barrel reserve gin, a Chardonnay barrel reserve gin, Cabernet Sauvignon barrel reserve gin and a Kosher gin for Passover too. Which do you want to try?

Vara Winery and Distillery High Desert Gin Receives High Marks East to West

July 24, 2021 by evebushman

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (PRWEB) – Vara Winery & Distillery’s High Desert Gin received Double Gold at the 2021 New York International Spirits Competition, along with five other medals including “New Mexico Distillery of the Year.” The New York International Spirits Competition is an annual judging of spirits that occurs each spring in New York City. The competition is unusual in that it is one of the few competitions that relies entirely on judges drawn exclusively from the beverage trade.

“Our first Double Gold medal in the Las Vegas Proof awards in December 2020 was humbling, and now this second Double Gold medal from the New York International Spirits Competition serves to validate our inspiration and execution of Vara High Desert Gin,” said Doug Diefenthaler, co-owner at Vara Winery & Distillery. “We seem to have found agreement with our idea of a lighter and more aromatic style of Gin and our distilling team has successfully interpreted our inspirations and has masterfully given life to this intriguingly delicious spirit.”

Vara stayed true to its mission of producing an international family of Spanish and American wines and spirits. Vara co-founders Doug Diefenthaler and Xavier Zamarripa were inspired to create a gin after noticing Spaniards’ affection for gin during their frequent trips there. The Spanish began to make their own gin using botanicals and blossoms found in the Mediterranean. Diefenthaler and Zamarripa wanted to emulate that style of gin. Albuquerque does not have the same botanicals found in the Mediterranean but what it does have is high-desert mountainous aromatics. Vara’s small-batch gin features 13 botanicals and is distilled from New Mexico grapes.

“The only other major unique thing about this is it’s not from a neutral grain spirit; it’s from a neutral grape spirit,” Diefenthaler said. “We start with a fruit-based distillation to make this, as opposed to a grain-based distillation. The aromatics that are in this from our region like to attach to that grape spirit. This is just unrivaled. It’s got nice weight, a nice texture and finish.”

Vara Winery & Distillery’s High Desert Gin won Double Gold at the 2020 PR%F Awards, and recently took Double Gold at the 2021 The New York International Spirits Competition.

The gin and other award-winning Vara spirits are available at the Winery and Distillery, 315 Alameda NE, and soon to be available for shipping nationally online at varaspirits.com

The Secret Garden Distillery Announces Appointment of ImpEx Beverages as its Exclusive US Importer

June 14, 2021 by evebushman

The Secret Garden Distillery is proud to announce they have joined forces with ImpEx Beverages, a California based spirit importer, to bring their award-winning gins from Edinburgh to the USA.

The first shipment will soon find its way into specialty retailers across the USA.  The expressions for this launch include Damask Rose & Juniper, Lemon Verbena & Juniper, and Pink Elderflower, Jasmine, & Juniper.   Each of these bring with them a unique experience for the American consumer, as the nurture and love for each botanical shines through with every sip.

Damask Rose & Juniper

A lovely golden gin with aromas of rose and hints of juniper. It tastes like Turkish Delight with some light citrus and candied cherry. It’s a gorgeous, delicate gin that is as refreshing as it is beautiful.

Perfect serve: Pour over ice and mix with a premium light tonic water and watch it naturally transform from a shimmering gold to a lovely pink in honor of this noble rose’s petals.

Lemon Verbena & Juniper

Crystal clear gin with aromas of citrus, lemon sherbet, and hints of herbs. Its zesty flavors are intermingled with juniper.

Perfect serve: Pour over ice and mix with a premium light tonic water. Garnish with a slice of lemon or a sprig of fresh mint.

Pink Elderflower, Jasmine, & Juniper

A delightful salmon pink gin with aromas of orange and pink grapefruit. On the palate it’s quite exotic with citrus and sweet orange flavors. All the sweetness is coming from the natural residual sugar of the plants.

Perfect serve: Pour over ice and mix with a premium light tonic water and watch it change from salmon pink to a brighter vibrant pink. Serve with a slice of pink grapefruit.

Hamish Martin, Founder of the Secret Garden Distillery, said: “I am so delighted to be working in partnership with ImpEx Beverages as our exclusive distributor in the US. They have embraced our beliefs and truly understand our ethos and our one true value; to be rooted in nature. I started the business with a dream, to create a Garden that works hand in hand with nature, using no chemicals whatsoever and actively encouraging our wild indigenous plants. These magical plants and herbs offer an array of natural flavors that work so well together in our gins. There are no added sugars, artificial colorings, flavorings, or preservatives, just nature distilled. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoy making them.”

Andre de Almeida, Managing Director of Secret Garden Distillery said “This is an exciting time for The Secret Garden Distillery, as we embark on the next stage of our journey. Hamish has built a unique business proposition underpinned by his passion for nature which is at the heart of everything. Working in partnership with ImpEx Beverages is an important step in sharing our story with Herb Garden premium gin consumers across the world. We are very excited for the future and our partnership with ImpEx Beverages.”

When speaking to Sam Filmus, President of ImpEx Beverages, he said, “We could not be more pleased to embark on this adventure with The Secret Garden Distillery.  These amazingly unique gins and the team behind them are sure to bring delight to US Consumers looking for something more than just your average gin.  Add to this the way the natural botanicals react to tonic water and change the color of the spirit, you have a real crowd pleaser.  We look forward to seeing the US fall in love with Herb Garden Gin, just as we have.”

About The Secret Garden Distillery

The Secret Garden Distillery lovingly crafts every bottle from seed to sip, and create unique tasting gins full of natural flavors and aromas with no added sugars, artificial colorings, flavorings or additives. Always with a commitment to better their sustainability credentials and impact on Mother Earth.

The Secret Garden Distillery was founded by entrepreneur and herbologist Hamish Martin, on a 7.5-acre site based on the outskirts of Edinburgh with its very own gin botanical garden.

Hamish and his wife Liberty originally purchased the site in 2012 with the dream to create The Secret Herb Garden, filled with plants, using no chemicals whatsoever, working hand in hand with nature and encouraging wild indigenous plants to flourish. Hamish, who had previously worked in the wine and spirits trade, started to experiment with herbs and spirits to demonstrate how remarkable nature is in naturally delivering flavour and color. By October 2017, the Secret Garden Distillery was established.

The Secret Herb Garden has over 600 naturally and sustainably grown varieties of herbs and plants, including a wide range of junipers, angelica and a dedicated apothecary rose garden. All plants are lovingly cultivated and hand harvested to ensure the highest quality. The botanicals are dried naturally at 37 degrees, distilled and then bottled at 43% ABV (for the US Market only) as they believe this is best for the floral flavors to harmonise with the gin. The garden is maintained with no chemicals – they only use plants to heal plants. They also ensure nature gets its fair share, and currently leave a percentage of plants unharvested to create wildlife habitats to feed and encourage wildlife and allow their 11 colonies of bees to have their fill too.

Latest Study Ranks the Most Popular Made-at-Home Cocktails in Each State During the Pandemic

May 2, 2021 by evebushman

AUSTIN, Texas, /PRNewswire/ — A recent study from Upgraded Points (https://upgradedpoints.com/most-popular-cocktails-around-the-us/), which was based on Google Trends, determined that searches for “cocktail recipes” in March of 2020 was nearly double what it was in March of 2019.

Statistics on cocktail popularity were broken out at both the national as well as by state levels.

Alex Miller, Founder and CEO of the site stated, “We knew that people’s preferences for cocktails might shift depending on the season of the year, so we did comparisons for the colder months (fall and winter) as well as the warmer months (spring and summer).”

According to the data, the most searched-for cocktail recipes nationwide during the spring and summer months were the “Painkiller,” (made with pineapple juice, rum, and orange juice), the classic Margarita (using tequila, triple sec and lime juice, and its variations) and the vodka-based Appletini.

As for national cocktail preferences during the colder, fall and winter months, the Margarita again scored highly, along with the Mimosa (a sparkling wine, often champagne, triple sec and orange juice) and the ever-popular “Moscow Mule,” a drink invented by Smirnoff ™ vodka which uses a combination of lime juice, vodka and ginger beer.

Made-at-Home Cocktails: Popularity Varies by State

According to the survey data, popular cocktails for in-home consumption vary not only by season but also by individual state.

For example, in California, searches for cocktail recipes during the spring and summer months favored the Pink Lady (the classic WWII-era gin and grenadine drink for women) while during the fall and winter months search patterns revolved around searches for the Paloma (made with tequila, lime juice and grapefruit).

In some states, there were no noticeable seasonal fluctuations. For example, one southern state (Texas) favored the Margarita year-round. It is speculated that, due to its historic connection to Mexico and the widespread acceptance of Tequila in that region, Texans would naturally gravitate to a Tequila-based cocktail such as the Margarita.

One surprise was the state of Connecticut. While during the warmer months they favor the no-nonsense Jack and Coke, during the colder fall and winter the non-alcoholic “mocktail” the Shirley Temple (where only grenadine, lemon-lime soda, ice and maraschino cherries, but no alcohol, is used) led the pack of popular recipe searches by pandemic stay-at-homers. Connecticut was the only state to favor a non-alcohol cocktail in any season of the year.

Emotions and Memories Tied to Food and Drink?

According to Miller, “Our study results clearly reveal that during this pandemic, people confined to their homes will attempt to recreate experiences that they had while traveling or socializing with others, and food and drink provide an emotional anchor to those past good times and feelings. People don’t always search out new experiences and emotions – they want to re-create the feelings of good times that they have already had and fondly remember.”
