America’s Best Wine Festival, The Garagiste, Offers America’s Best Wine Club

April 12, 2022 by evebushman

PASO ROBLES, CALIF. (PRWEB) – America’s Best Wine Festival (USA Today), The Garagiste Festival, has launched The Official Garagiste Festival Wine Club, offering consumers across the US* rare access to the same under-the-radar, innovative, micro-production wineries that have made The Garagiste Wine Festival famous. And, just like the festival, which limits attendance to preserve its singular experience, only 300 members will have access to the limited production wines of The Garagiste Wine Festival Club.

The club also offers wine lovers a chance to contribute to the future of winemaking as it supports The Garagiste Festival Scholarship Fund at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, one of the country’s top winemaking programs.

“The Garagiste Festival Wine Club is another first for the garagiste movement” said Garagiste Festival Co-founder Doug Minnick. “We are so excited to introduce the official wine club of The Garagiste Festival, offering wines delivered straight from the garagiste movement’s heart to your doorstep. No other wine club provides access to this range of hard-to-find gems from the burgeoning micro-winery movement, and none are associated with the actual Garagiste Festival.”

The Garagiste Festival helped spark the garagiste wine movement when it launched in 2011 with a mission to bring wider attention to the undiscovered and under-recognized American artisan micro-wineries making some of the best, most exciting, handcrafted small-lot production wines in the world. It is the nation’s first and only festival to showcase the wines of micro-production commercial ‘garagiste**’ winemakers.

Garagiste Festival Wine Club members receive three shipments of four bottles of premium wines each year that reflect each of the Garagiste Festival regions: Paso Robles, Northern California, and Southern California (including Santa Barbara County). Membership in the club means that consumers who are unable to travel (as well as those who can!) to the festival’s four annual events can experience remarkable, hand-crafted wines from some of California’s (and the US’) most renowned and innovative wine regions, year-round.

For example, the next wine shipment will include wines from among the over 40 micro-production wines from Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi, Sierra Foothills and Livermore that will be poured at The Garagiste Festival: Northern Exposure which takes place on April 30th in Sonoma, at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall. To buy tickets, click here.

Carefully selected in a blind tasting by a panel of industry professionals (winemakers, sommeliers, wine writers, etc.) from the over 600 wineries in the Garagiste Festival’s orbit, the Garagiste Certified wines encompass the wide range of varieties, blends, and styles — and the high quality typical of The Garagiste Festival. Each shipment reflects The Garagiste Festival’s core principles: micro-production, locally-sourced, passionately-produced, and delicious — the kind of quality and innovation only achievable by wines handcrafted in small batches.

“Our festivals, the home of the garagiste movement, are known for discovering today’s, and tomorrow’s, rockstar winemakers,” continued Minnick. “Our wine club brings that rare opportunity closer to home.”

About The Garagiste Wine Festival
The Garagiste Wine Festival (http://www.garagistefestival.com), named “Best of the Fests” for 2019 by Fest Forums and the ‘Best Wine Festival in the US in 2018 in USA Today’s 10Best Readers Choice Awards, is the first and only wine festival dedicated to the undiscovered and under-recognized American artisan ‘garagiste’ micro-wineries who are making some of the best, most exciting, handcrafted small-lot production wines in the world. Founded by fellow garagistes Stewart McLennan and Douglas Minnick, the Garagiste Festivals are committed to discovering the best and most innovative limited-production winemakers and promoting and showcasing them to a broad audience of discerning wine consumers. In addition to its flagship annual festival in Paso Robles, CA, the Garagiste Festival line-up includes Garagiste Festival: Southern Exposure, featuring Santa Ynez Valley garagistes; the Garagiste Festival: Urban Exposure, in Los Angeles; the Garagiste Festival, Northern Exposure, in Sonoma; winemaker dinners, a newsletter, garagiste profiles and more.

In addition to being named the US’ Best Wine Festival, the Garagiste Festival was named one of the ‘Top Nine Incredible Epicurean Vacations’ in the world by ABC News, “one of the premier wine events of the year,” by the LA Times and “Best Festival” by Sunset Magazine’s ‘Best of the West.’ The festivals are produced by Garagiste Events, a non-profit dedicated to furthering the education of future winemakers and those training for employment within the wine industry. Proceeds from the festivals support the Garagiste Festival Scholarship fund of the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo Wine and Viticulture Department.

**Garagiste (garage-east) is a term originally used in the Bordeaux region of France to denigrate renegade small-lot wine makers, sometimes working in their “garages” (anything considered not a chateau), who refused to follow the “rules,” and is now a full-fledged movement responsible for making some of the best wine in the world. The Garagiste Festivals were the first to shine a light on the American garagiste winemaker in 2011.

2021 NIGHTCLUB and BAR SHOW DONATES MORE THAN 6,000 MEALS TO THREE SQUARE

August 18, 2021 by evebushman

LAS VEGAS – Following the close of the 2021 Nightclub & Bar Show, the premier bar and restaurant event donated more than 6,000 meals and water to Southern Nevada’s largest food bank, Three Square.

Led by celebrity chef Brian Duffy, the show’s F and B Innovation Center served as an anchor to the Expo Hall Floor, where thousands of industry professionals had the opportunity to learn from esteemed chefs and industry leaders. Following the event, Duffy and his team prioritized donating the remaining food and water and gathered more than 7,000 pounds of produce, meat, water, and dry goods to be given to Nevadans in need.

“As leaders in the bar and restaurant industries, minimizing food waste is continually at the forefront of everything we do,” said Tim McLucas, vice president of Bar & Restaurant Group. “We are so thrilled to be back in Las Vegas, and it means so much to us that we were able to donate this food and show our support and appreciation for this amazing community,”

Nightclub & Bar Show will return to Las Vegas March 21-23, 2022 as Bar & Restaurant Expo.  To learn more visit: https://www.ncbshow.com/ncbshowcom/evolution

What We Found at the Nightclub and Bar Show Las Vegas

July 23, 2021 by evebushman

We’ve been covering the Nightclub and Bar Show in Las Vegas for a few years. Usually I attend the classes and share what I’ve learned, while Eddie visits with and photographs his favorite vendors. This time we both visited with as many vendors as we could over two days. We saw a lot of new technology for F and B (front and back of the house. For these establishments the front refers to the area we see: entrance, dining, bar. The back refers to the kitchen, storeroom and anything else we can’t see.)

Chaco Flaco table. Photo credit: Edward Bushman.

Will be reviewing the Codigo 1530 Rosa Blanco on this site 7/30. Photo credit: Edward Bushman.

Hoping to see the Booze Cream mobile truck again! Photo credit: Edward Bushman.

Can’t wait to put the Twang Reserve Michelada Pickle flavor in my next Bloody Mary! Photo credit: Edward Bushman.

Besides F and B I was offered many privileges for R and D (research and development) with many spirit brands that may not yet be distributed in every sector of the market. For the photos please see this link for my Facebook page. For more details, read on.

Front and Back (Anything but booze for your bar, winery or restaurant)

Sour: Brine Brothers mixers made a pickle fan out of me. Amazing stuff alone (good for muscle cramps I’ve been told) and we think it would be killer in a cocktail! Besides all natural pickle juice they also make an olive juice for drinks. While Twang makes, you guessed it, drink mixers as well as salts/sugars/seasonings for the rim of your glass. We loved the pickle flavor for their Reserve Michelada Mix, among others, that can also be used in a Bloody Mary! https://brinebrothers.com/ https://www.twang.com/

Smoke: Middleton Mixology makes a “Smoke Top” for cocktails that has a fun presentation at the table. Fog Hat has a smoked charcuterie board as well as the smoke top, which can, in our opinion, work magic at all kinds of different establishments. https://middletonmixology.com/ https://foghatsmoker.com

Garnish and Ice: Who loves a bit of colorful dried garnish in their cocktails? We do and we dug everything Dehy Garnish is making as presentation is so important. Also check out the Ghost Ice System for perfectly clear diamond shaped XL cubes made right in your bar – no carving required – for upscale cocktails. And if you want to dazzle your guests turning a large ice cube into a sphere, check out the copper-aluminum Melt Down Ice Press. The Perfect Puree makes a ton of beautiful fruit purees, some of which I tasted in killer combos. https://www.dehygarnish.com/ https://www.ghosticesystem.com/ https://meltdownice.com/ https://perfectpuree.com/

Being Responsible and Being Fun: If you want to serve you patrons fully, consider offering the yummy, and buzz-killing, Get So Bar that “reduces alcohol absorption” before you begin a night of drinking. I tried two of their flavors and loved them. And finally, the girl-i-est vendor at the Nightclub and Bar show: the Tipsy Chics that sell all sorts of fun boozy accessories, including jeweled magnetic wine charms and bracelet flasks.

https://www.getsobars.com/ https://www.tipsytags.com/

Odds and Ends: Did you know that pizzerias have their own trade magazine? Aficionados/home chefs van also check out PMQ Pizza Magazine. Lippy’s Caddy makes an uber convenient tray to use at home or in your restaurant, easy to fill and light to hold. Zenreach “pairs with your guest Wi-Fi network” which opens dozens of possibilities for you. https://www.pmq.com/ https://lippyscaddy.com/ https://zenreach.com/

Research and Development (booze for your bar or party)

Happy to taste some really smooth tequila from Codigo 1530 (full review of “Rosa” Blanco, that spends one month in uncharred Napa Cabernet French oak barrels, is in the works) and also hit a sweet note with Tequila Don Elias that has expressions in both bourbon and French oak barrels. If you can find them, try them. http://www.tequiladonelias.com https://codigo1530.com/

Island Vibes Rum makes several flavors, including Coconut and Spiced versions, our favorite was the Key Lime. We would drink this over ice, no mixer needed. https://www.facebook.com/islandvibesrum/

Enjoyed a few of the more flavorful canned cocktails notably from Sip Shine (aka Sip Moonshine) with a 20% ABV, and Chaco Flaco Drinks that are all natural and award winning. I had never been a fan of canned cocktails (or any kind of hard seltzer – which these are not) until this. https://www.sipmoonshine.com https://chacoflaco.com/

Booze Cream Las Vegas is part booze truck and part party vehicle, with unique creamy flavors and a nice 16 proof alcohol. When you are in Las Vegas follow them on Instagram to see where they may pop up or rent them for your next LV party! https://www.instagram.com/boozecreamlv/ https://www.boozecreamlv.com/

More spirits we loved included the creamy “Personal Trainer Approved and Gluten Free” Muscle Vodka, the smooth Branson Cognac XO, and the award-winning Humboldt Distillery hemp-infused vodka – which would be gin if it had any juniper! https://www.musclevodka.net/ https://www.bransoncognac.com/

https://humboldtdistillery.com/

In the to-go or almost to-go type variety we found Get Jevo makes Jell-O shots in “endless recipe combinations” – including wine – and you can make them in bulk in your bar. While Liqs Cocktail Shots can be found at some liquor stores and bars, they boast a nearly no-end expiration date, a tamper free lid (for ladies in bars that prefer a gifted cocktail comes sealed) and some really cool cocktail combinations. https://www.getjevo.com/ https://www.liqs.com/

The re-formatted, tasting-intensive VIA Italian Wine Ambassador course saw the participation of 39 highly-qualified candidates, who joined the VIA Faculty and Team in New York from June 26th to 30th. The 2019 New York cohort featured wine professionals who are active players in the New York wine and restaurant scene, as well as importers and marketing specialists operating, for the most part, in New York city and states such as Florida, Massachusetts, California, Nevada, Texas, Tennessee, Rhode Island, Iowa, and Pennsylvania. The group also included a small number of professionals from Canada and the U.K..

VIA New York proceedings were officially opened by Gioia Gatti, the Head of the Wine and Food Section at ICE – Italian Trade Agency in New York. In 2019, ICE – Italian Trade Agency supported also the Los Angeles and Verona editions of the Italian Wine Ambassador course. During the New York course, students sampled 215 wines: 70 during the guided tastings led by Faculty members, and 144 during the additional tasting sessions labelled “Tasting Labs” which of walk-around tastings with wines offered by VIA Supporters Italia del Vino, Italian Signature Wines Academy, Famiglie del Vino, Wi-Fi Wine from Irpinia, Consorzio Franciacorta, Consorzio Vini del Trentino, Consorzio Vini d’Abruzzo, and Sicilia DOC.

The 70 wines sampled during the guided tastings and studied for the blind tasting component of the Italian Wine Ambassador final exam represent benchmark Italian wines and have been carefully selected by VIA Faculty and team of specialists to reflect global market trends combined with local winemaking expertise. In New York, candidates trained their palates and improved their tasting skills with benchmark wines from key denominations across the 20 regions of Italy, native grape varieties and different styles. VIA Faculty Henry Davar commented on the wine selection: “With every new edition of the Vinitaly International Academy Ambassador Course, thanks to the continuing participation of our producer, supplier, and consorzio partners, we’re able to offer benchmark wines from the top producers in the most important wine growing areas. In our the section on sparkling wines for example, we had the opportunity taste iconic wines such as Ca’ del Bosco’s Franciacorta Annamaria Clemente and Ferrari’s TrentoDOC Riserva del Fondatore. I’d say that was a pretty good start!” Candidates also availed of the new VIA Tasting Schematic booklet, VIA’s standardized tasting grid with descriptors which are specific to Italian wine. The selection of benchmark wines per categories, VIA’s Tasting Schematic and the increase of the number of wines sampled in both guided tastings and Tasting Labs partake in VIA’s mission to maximize international candidates’ exposure to Italian wines.

Additionally, In New York, VIA’s constant commitment to become the gold standard of Italian wine education was reflected in the course’s attention to market niches such as the Organic, Biodynamic, and Natural wine markets. During the five-day of lectures on Italian wines, VIA guest lecturer and Biodynamic wine expert Monty Waldin, led a module on “Biodynamic and Organic Wines in Italy.” Waldin commented on the importance to learn more about this category: “Italy is one of the world leaders in terms of the surface area of its organic vineyards, so it is natural for VIA students to immerse themselves in Italy’s burgeoning organic and Biodynamic wine categories. Understanding how such wines are grown and made and how they taste enhances a deeper understanding of their intricacies and attributes to both trade and private buyers.”

The next VIA Italian Wine Ambassador course will be held in Hong Kong from November 3rd to 7th, 2019, a few days before the International Wine and Spirits Fair (November 7th to 10th) where Vinitaly will also organize a dedicated expo of Italian wines (Vinitaly Hong Kong). Applications to the VIA course in Hong Kong are currently being received.

About: Vinitaly International Academy (VIA) aims to be the gold standard of Italian wine education. It offers a complete educational path with standardized courses that will teach professionals and educators to master the diversity of Italian wine in a rigorous, organized manner. VIA’s main objective is to foster a global network of highly qualified professionals such as Italian Wine Ambassadors and Italian Wine Experts: in turn, they will support and promote Italian wine throughout the world. VIA was founded by Stevie Kim, Managing Director of Vinitaly International. Italian vine genetics scholar, Prof. Attilio Scienza, oversees VIA’s scientific and educational direction as the Chief Scientist. VIA Faculty Sarah Heller MW and Henry Davar teach the flagship Italian Wine Ambassador course.
