Chef 101er Eve Tackles Smokehouse Garlic Cheese Bread

Someone posted this recipe on Facebook and the key ingredient, the powdered cheese packet from those inexpensive boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, seemed kind of…bizarre. But the tasty goodness of this bread was equal to what I had enjoyed countless times at the old Smokehouse restaurant in Burbank. My few changes are in italics below.

Smokehouse Garlic Cheese Bread

Prep Time: 10 mins (Make sure you look at this recipe the night before, five minutes of this requires a prep and an overnight stay on your counter!)

Total Time: 15 mins

Yield: 1 loaf

Ingredients

1 wide loaf sourdough bread, sliced in half

1/2 cup butter

2 teaspoons chopped garlic

1/3 cup cheese sauce mix (Kraft Macaroni and cheese packet)

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Directions

Melt butter and saute garlic let this marinate over night at room temp.

Melt down butter again and brush butter over loaves.

Mix powder packet and parmesan cheese.

Sprinkle on bread.

Bake 350* for about 5 minutes.

then place under broiler for about 30 seconds. (Put your oven light on and watch this, we burnt our first batch!)

Slice and serve warm.
