A Hot August Night Brings Mardi Gras to SCV

18th Annual Fundraiser Benefits Senior Center’s Home Delivered Meals

Mardi Gras is coming to the Santa Clarita Valley Aug. 22 as the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center Foundation hosts “A Hot August Night,” the 18th annual benefit dinner and auction to raise funds for the Senior Center’s Home Delivered Meals program.

Guests at the event will be immersed in the Louisiana experience, complete with delicious cuisine and live entertainment including a mystical illusionist, a live Dixieland band, a live DJ, dancing under the stars and festive opportunities for guests to “win their beads.”

“Our Hot August Night is going to sizzle,” said event chair Jill Bondy. “By attending, our guests will help us continue to feed local homebound seniors, and they’ll not only be benefiting that great cause but they’ll also have a truly memorable evening, too.

A Hot August Night also will feature wine tasting from Vino 100 and incredible live and silent auctions, all in an atmosphere befitting the French Quarter of New Orleans.

“Last year’s auction featured an amazing surprise item, when the SWAT team paid a visit to the event,” Bondy said. “We’re planning more surprises this year, and it will be hotter than ever!”

Individual tickets cost $75, and special VIP tickets are available for $100, which includes VIP tastings and premium parking for the event, scheduled to start 6 p.m. at Mann Biomedical, 25141 Rye Canyon Loop, Valencia, CA 91355.

An enticing array of Mardi Gras-themed sponsorship opportunities is available. Reservations, sponsorships and more information are available at the Foundation website, www.scvseniorfoundation.org, by calling the Senior Center at 661-259-9444, ext. 151, or by e-mail to: info@scvseniorfoundation.

“Fundraising events like A Hot August Night are so important to the Senior Center in
these tough economic times,” said Kathy Crone, director of development for the SCV Senior Center. “It’s become more difficult than ever to meet the needs of the rising number of seniors in our community who need assistance.”

The benefit auction continues an 18-year tradition of supporting the Senior Center’s Home Delivered Meals program, which brings a hot meal each day to homebound local seniors, many of whom otherwise may not have anything to eat. Home Delivered Meals benefits approximately 800 households in a year.

“For some of the hundreds of seniors who receive Home Delivered Meals, this program is literally a lifeline,” Crone said. “A Hot August Night will be an excellent opportunity for the Senior Center’s supporters to let their hair down and have a good time, but at the same time they will be helping us continue to provide this all-important lifeline.”
