Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky is Unveiled in the U.S. Market
NEW YORK (PRWEB) – Isle of Skye, a Skye Blended Scotch Whisky brand within the Ian Macleod Distillers portfolio, has announced the U.S. launch of their full range, from 8 years old to 30 years. This whisky has a completely new premium look and feel, with each bottle proudly displaying the famous ‘Cuillin Ridge’ hills that lie at the heart of the island itself.
This blended Scotch was created by Ian Macleod on Skye in 1933 and was inspired by the dramatic landscapes of the island. Skye is the most popular of Scotland’s islands and is famously used as a location for many films and TV series. An ancient island which has been carved by the elements and is a theater of natural drama. The influence of the island can still be seen today in the whisky, which is described as ‘soul-stirring’ with each sip transporting you to this land of myth and legend.
To blend the Isle of Skye, Ian Macleod Distillers skilfully uses malt whisky from Skye and complement it with stunning malt and grain whiskies from the mainland of Scotland, to produce a unique whisky with a very high malt content. This gives the Scotch a complex and incredibly smooth flavor, bursting with tropical fruits, spice and chocolate.
Isle of Skye has been created to be enjoyed neat, on the rocks or as the perfect base for a variety of cocktails due to its complex and layered flavors.
Iain Weir, Brand Director for Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky says, “We are delighted to share the updated Isle of Skye range with the U.S. The unique, rich flavors of the whisky are a testament to the careful blending and premium malts and grain that we use to create it. Our stunning new packaging really tells the story of the brand and showcases its heritage on the ancient Isle of Skye.”
The full range of Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whiskies to be released in the United States are as follows:
The 8 Year Old (SRP: $20.99) has gentle sweetness on the nose with floral notes, citrus aromas, and subtle smoke. Peat smoke on the palate along with shellfish, toffee, vanilla and heather. Dry to finish with continued smoke.
The 12 Year Old (SRP: $27.99) has creamy vanilla fragrances with orange zest, ground coriander, honeycomb, and distant heather fire. Smooth and balanced palate with flavors of dried apricot, gooseberry, and a gentle spice. Lingering peat finish with notes of lime, dark chocolate, and fresh mint.
The 18 Year Old (SRP: $64.99) has gooseberry and cinnamon aromas caught on a coastal breeze, lime, chilli, and black pepper. Gentle smoke on the palate gives way to citrus zest, fruitcake, and toffee notes. A peat smoke finish ebbs into rounded malt and dark chocolate.
*Award: Gold Medal in 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition
The 21 Year Old (SRP: $114.99) has shelled walnuts with dried banana and brown sugar on the nose, with wood smoke, clementine and treacle. A rich body with a mouthfeel to match, yielding to honeyed porridge, tropical fruit, and allspice. A wonderfully tenacious rich oak finish with dried fruits, and soft peat smoke.
The 25 Year Old (SRP: $206.99) has rich and oaky ginger on the nose mixed with vanilla, red apple, and citrus. Rounded and fruity on the palate, with notes of malt and more apple, giving way to a wisp of peat smoke. A balanced and dry finish with lingering hints of apricot.
The 30 Year Old (SRP: $321.99) has vanilla and light oak on the nose with hints of bakewell tart, coconut, and a floral top note. Silky and sweet butter pastry on the palate, mixed with fresh malt and raisins. A remarkable 30 Year Old blended Scotch.
*Award: Gold Medals in 2023 International Wine & Spirit Competition and 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition
Consumers can now purchase the full Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky range in select retail shops throughout the U.S. and the whiskies are available in 7ooml sized bottles.

WHISKEY 101 (Part 2) – Favorites And Cocktail Recipes
The 11th Anniversary of the Nth Ultimate Whisky and Spirits Experience – Done!
This time at the Universal Whisky Experience I met up with at least 40 whisky-loving friends and made a whole lot of new ones! From Scottish to Japanese to American distillers making all kinds of brown spirits, we were covered. Here’s a snapshot of the eleventh year of this stellar event:
The website https://universalwhiskyexperience.com/ told us to expect over 200 whiskies to try from at least 80 vendors from all over the globe! We knew there would be both rare and expensive bottles, and we were itching to try as many as we could manage. Of course for some, the wine, Champagne and food might be enough, but not for my 40+ pals! They were on the hunt not only to taste the finest brown spirits but to also rub elbows with other collectors, aficionados, distillers and brand ambassadors. More than a dozen pals were on the hunt to meet Richard Paterson, aka The Nose, as he is the most knowledgeable and entertaining master distiller most of us have only seen on How to Drink Whisky videos.
Here was my social media post the next day:
Oh what a night!!!! Too busy chatting with pals and sampling THE finest spirits to take enough photos of it all! What would you go for – or went for if you came – at last night’s Universal Whisky Experience? Photos include me with Richard “The Nose” Paterson and Brandon Bartlett, some bottle shots (some not pictured) from Glenmorangie, Virginia Distilling, The Brollach Irish single malt, Hardy Cognac, Westward Whiskey, Rosebank, Cognac Frapin, Stellum Distillery Rye, Johnnie Walker, Mortlach, Hakata, Glenfiddich, Martell Cognac, Linkwood distillery, Isle of Raasay Distillery Hebridean Distillers (their first legal distillery in the Hebrides) – my FAVORITE of the night and at my favorite table – ImpEx Beverages manned by Sam Filmus and Chris Uhde, aka the Whisky Redhead!
Now, to elaborate:
Yes, most of us made a beeline over to meet Richard Paterson, as he was an honored guest of the evening. They had created a lovely piece of art in his likeness, a silhouette, that was on a step and repeat backdrop and of course, I was first in line for a photo-op! Friends of ours that had flown in from Idaho just to meet Paterson, and of course have all of the whisky they could ever want to taste in one night, were right behind me.
From there I started to make my way around the room, often stopping when I saw a pal or brand ambassador that I recognized. Among the tasting tables I thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with Sam Filmus and Chris Uhde at ImPex Beverages. The four whiskies I mentioned in my social post – Linkwood distillery, Isle of Raasay Distillery Hebridean Distillers, Hakata 12 YO in sherry cask – were all uniquely different from one another in both aroma and flavor. These are whiskies to look for. From there I tasted some very old Glenmorangie whiskies with GlenMoDan (his name on social media) including a 25 YO Sonoma-Cutrer Reserve and a 24 YO Rare Cask.
Slowly moving on Eddie and I enjoyed American single malts from Virginia Distilling and Westward (Oregon) – these are not to be confused with Kentucky bourbon or single malt from Scotland. It’s a growing category of American distillers you should look for.
Cognacs from Hardy and Frapin are always popular tables. And outstanding Rosebank 31 YO is from a distillery that shuttered in 1992 and now under a five-year renovation to re-open. Gray and Gold labels from Stellum Rye wowed us. Johnnie Walker had a Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Dundas as well as a King George, both unique and rare blends.
Next up was a 20 YO Mortlach, and a 31 YO was found amongst the goodies at the Gordon MacPhail table. Older vintages from Glenfiddich included their ‘Cask Collection’ Reserve Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky with distinctive dark blue labels.
In a few words: Don’t miss this annual event! April 17-19, 2024 is the next one but there are more global events you can find on their website.

Brentwood Auctions Announces Record Results in Inaugural Year of Rare Spirits Offerings
VANCOUVER, WASH. (PRWEB) – Brentwood Auctions, the premium wine auction house that offers well-stored, collectible bottles at low reserves, is proud to announce record sales following its first year auctioning off rare spirits in partnership with Benchmark Wine Group’s affiliate, Benchmark Wine & Spirits.
“Brentwood Auctions started dealing in rare spirits in March 2022 using Spirits Market Journal data to guide their actions,” said Peter Gibson, Editor of Spirits Market Journal. “Our data indicates that they quickly became one of the top auctioneers of rare spirits in the United States, ranking in the top four in the country in the fourth quarter of 2022 and, in a very short time, have established a great many world records for best prices realized.”
Among the record results reported are:
- Dalmore 35 Year Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky – $5,460
- Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year Old Family Reserve (2015 Release) Straight Bourbon Whiskey – $4,980
- Buffalo Trace George T. Stagg Limited Edition Barrel Proof – $2,400
- Teeling Vintage Reserve Collection 33 Year Single Malt Irish Whiskey – $2,100
- Yamato Mizunara Oak Cask Takeda Shingen Edition Japanese Whisky- – $1,800
- Domaine de la Romanee Conti Marc de Bourgogne 1995 – $3,120
- And a great many others.
“We’ve been delighted by the reception as we’ve moved into rare spirits in partnership with our affiliate, Benchmark Wine and Spirits,” said Matt Coelho, Auction Director for Brentwood. “We’ve received an exceptional number of top collections from passionate spirits collectors and brokers. The largest was the world-class collection of Nino Kilgore-Marchetti, who offered a collection so vast that we decided to build a series of auctions to maximize collectors’ access to it and its return to the owner. We just completed this series, with results well above estimates.”
“Brentwood exceeded my expectations in return on my collection, ease of transaction, and overall service,” said Nino Kilgore-Marchetti, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Whisky Wash. “They understood the rare spirits in my collection, the correct market price, and the method of finding excited buyers. I was happily surprised with the results and recommend them to others looking to buy or sell the very best rare spirits.”
Mr. Coelho reports that this success has been noticed by owners of other top spirits collections, with several more large ones now consigned. Auctions of these will be held in the coming weeks and will feature such rarities as:
- Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 Year
- Michter’s Celebration Sour Mash
- The Macallan The Flask
- Brora 38 Year Limited Edition
- A.H. Hirsch Finest Reserve 20 Year
This creates a unique opportunity for seasoned collectors and new ones alike to get access to these products, which are very rarely seen.
“Rare spirits have been growing quickly as collectible and investible products,” said David Parker, Owner of Brentwood Auctions and Benchmark Wine Group. “We were able to develop the first comprehensive, searchable database of auction results for them and make it available to the industry as Spirits Market Journal, giving buyers and sellers the information they need to confidently trade this complex line of products. We see this hobby quickly growing to rival the size of the rare wine market in the U.S., as has already happened in Europe.”
About Brentwood Auctions:
Brentwood Auctions began auctioning rare wine via internet auction in 1998 as Brentwood Wine Company, the first licensed weekly internet wine auctioneer in the world. Now operated by First Growth Technologies, Inc., publisher of The Wine Market Journal and Spirits Market Journal, as a service to wine and spirits retailers and collectors to match rare products to buyers using an auction model, they began auctioning spirits in partnership with Benchmark Wine and Spirits of Washington, D.C. in March 2022.
U.S. Distilleries Applaud Federal Ruling to Designate American Single Malt Category
LOVINGSTON, Va./PRNewswire/ — Virginia Distillery Company and members of the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission (ASMWC), an organization designed to define, establish, promote and protect the category of American Single Malts, are celebrating a new ruling based on the notice of rulemaking process by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) that will formally define American Single Malt whisky.
The rule ensures that any spirit labeled American Single Malt must be made from 100% malted barley, mashed, distilled and matured in one distillery, produced entirely in the U.S., distilled to a proof not exceeding 160, matured in oak casks not exceeding 700 liters and bottled at a minimum of 40% ABV.
On July 29, the TTB issued the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register and will enter a 60-day comment period for the public and industry to suggest changes to the proposed rules.
“Announcing American Single Malts as a formal category by the TTB is a historic moment for the industry, as it has been decades since a new whisky category of this magnitude has been added to the Beverage Alcohol Manual,” said Virginia Distillery Company CEO and ASMWC Treasurer Gareth H. Moore. “The American whisky category was synonymous with bourbon just 15 years ago, but the resurgence of rye diversified that view. The American Single Malt category will further broaden the view of the American whisky consumer and fuel innovation and premiumization across domestic products.”
Virginia Distillery Company, the largest independently owned American Single Malt distillery in the U.S. and one of the co-founding members of the ASMWC has been highly active in advocacy efforts leading up to the recent announcement. The distillery has worked in close alignment for several years with advocates at Westland, Balcones and Copperworks distilleries to push for the designation.
Moore added: “Formally defining American Single Malt will enable retailers and ultimately consumers to recognize the growing category that might otherwise be lost in the broad array of spirits on the market.”
Producers anticipate that the designation will accelerate U.S. Trade association efforts for American Single Malts to be recognized as a category by other countries and expect growth in both export as well as competitors small and large.
In 2020, Virginia Distillery Company launched Courage & Conviction, its signature American Single Malt whisky, and in 2021 added three new whiskies to the Courage & Conviction lineup featuring individual bottlings of the core trio of casks – bourbon, sherry and cuvée – that make up Courage & Conviction. Last fall, the distillery released its inaugural cask strength whisky, Courage & Conviction Cuvée Single Cask and in 2022 began rolling out Courage & Conviction PX Sherry Single Cask and Courage & Conviction Bourbon Single Cask.
The Courage & Conviction line is the most awarded American Single Malt with more than 100 accolades earned over the last five years, including a 98-point rating – the highest awarded in 2022 – and #12 in the Top 100 in the 2022 Ultimate Spirits Challenge, Best American Single Malt in the 2022 International Whisky Competition, and a best of class gold medal at the 2022 LA International Spirits Competition. The line was produced to meet the standards that the ASMWC proposed in anticipation for the category designation. Coinciding with the rollout of Courage & Conviction, the distillery launched a complete guide to American Single Malt whisky.

Trust us when we say 2022 features bottles that are right at the top of the wish-lists of the world’s greatest whisky fans, and they’re surely not to be missed.
Master Classes with Industry Icons
The Master Classes at The Nth have always been one of the biggest draws to this industry-defining showcase of fine spirits, and Nth 2022 is shaping up to be the best yet when it comes to panels and seminars hosted by the world’s most celebrated experts. This will be the second Three Drinkers TV series for Smith and Nicklin who also produce the popular ‘Bring a Bottle’ podcast, run the drink, travel and lifestyle-focused online magazine thethreedrinkers.com and have a growing social media/influencer presence.
Influenced by the world’s greatest winemakers, Waterford Whisky has sourced barley from nearly 100 individual farms, some of them organic and biodynamic. Their founder, Mark Reynier, was raised in the wine industry and ran one of premier London’s wine and spirits shops. In 2000, he resurrected the defunct Bruichladdich distillery in Islay, Scotland, and later sold it. Tapping into Mark’s background, Waterford Whisky carefully monitors each farm’s harvest and malts, mashes, ferments and distills the grains separately to bring out the character of each site.
Waterford Whisky, the largest producer of organic malt whisky in the world, has also recently released a few new exciting whiskys. First, The Cuvée, which is a Bordeaux inspired single malt that shakes up traditional whisky blending. 25 totally unique Waterford Single Farm Origin Whiskies, drawn from distinct terroirs of Southern Ireland, have been married together to create the ultimate layered, profound and compelling tasting experience. The second is Biodynamic: Luna, the world’s first whisky made from Biodynamic Irish barley. As part of its pioneering quest to unearth whisky’s most natural flavors, Waterford Distillery has introduced the radical biodynamic farming philosophy, as lauded by many of the world’s legendary winemakers, to the conservative whisky industry.
Smith said, “Being both wine and spirits experts, Helena and I were delighted to intertwine the two worlds during our visit to Waterford Distillery. To see first-hand how terroir has such an impact on the liquid inside the bottle really showcases the innovation of today’s Irish whisky industry.
We can’t wait to share this discovery with our audience.”
In addition to Waterford Whisky, The Three Drinkers in Ireland will explore all sorts of drinks beyond delicious whisky, from gin and poitin to cider and Irish cream. They’ll also take a deeper dive into Ireland’s incredible food scene and will showcase some traditional activities such as bog snorkelling, cheesemaking, eel fishing and Irish dancing. The result is an escapist, gastronomic journey with a drinks hook through the picturesque island of Ireland that’s light-hearted and aspirational with plenty of take-home tips.
It’s the perfect pour of armchair travel and feel-good entertainment.
Nicklin says, “We’ve loved bringing everything together here, from the food and drink, to the people, places, culture and tourism of the whole of the island of Ireland. We’ve been blown away by the sheer quality of Irish produce too. It’s world class! Ireland is also the perfect country to visit as the world opens up again, thanks to its wide open spaces and easy accessibility – and it’s a great location for lovers of fantastic food and drink to boot.”
About Waterford Whisky:
Waterford Whisky is on a quest to unearth whisky’s most natural flavors. Unashamedly influenced by the world’s greatest winemakers, Waterford brings the same intellectual drive, methodology and rigor to unearth the nuances that make Waterford Whisky the most profound single malt ever created. Across southern Ireland, warmed by the Gulf Stream, temperate, moist air crosses fertile soils to produce a verdant landscape and the world’s finest barley. Since barley is the source of malt whisky’s complex flavors, it makes abundant sense to focus on where and how the barley is cultivated. Those flavors are shaped by place, by the soils that nourish its roots, by the microclimate in which it ripens. By terroir. Waterford is a whisky of the world, born of Irish barley.
