Perlises Pick The Children of the Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund

We recently received the following email from Wilson Artisan Wineries about The Children of the Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund and wanted to share it with our readers. The fund is administered by Antoine Favero, who is winemaker for several of the Wilson Artisan Wineries including Mazzocco Sonoma, Soda Rock, Jaxon Keys, etc.

With more than 30 applicants thus far this year from around Sonoma County, we need your support!

The Children of the Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund benefits students with one or more parent(s) working in wine agriculture – the true cornerstone of the wine industry in Sonoma County. Children of employees of ANY Sonoma County winery related business are eligible, with scholarship funds available for traditional college, junior college and trade schools.

In lieu of the annual fundraiser gala, we are asking for cash donations to the fund which can be made at the link below. Cash donations are tax deductible and can be set up as a one time or monthly contribution.

ABOUT THE FUND:

Twenty four years ago, Ken and Diane Wilson held a casual barbecue at Wilson Winery with the belief that children of Sonoma County vineyard workers should not be limited by financial hardships in their pursuit of higher educational opportunities; thus began the Children of the Vineyard Scholarship fundraiser (CVWSF). In 2002, the Wilson Family collaborated with the Sonoma County Farm Bureau given their deep-rooted values in the agricultural industry and education. Each year, Wilson Artisan Wineries is honored to provide numerous scholarships benefiting youth across Sonoma County and has distributed more than $500,000 in scholarships since inception.

From Cindy Robledo, 2011 Scholarship Recipient: “I wanted to help my parents as much as I could financially while in college at Sonoma State and scholarships like this one definitely made an impact. I received my degree from Sonoma State in Business Administration with a focus on the wine industry.”

From Rebecca Ruiz, 2012 Scholarship Recipient: “As a first generation college student, I didn’t realize how expensive higher education is. Receiving this scholarship lifted some weight off my shoulders and allowed me to focus on my studies and make the most of my first year of college.”

Michael and Karen Perlis have been pursuing their passion for wine for more than 30 years. They have had the good fortune of having numerous mentors to show them the way and after a couple of decades of learning about wine, attending events, visiting wineries and vineyards, and tasting as much wine as they possibly could, they had the amazing luck to meet Eve Bushman. Michael and Karen do their best to bring as much information as possible about wine to Eve’s Wine 101 faithful readers.
