If you’ve been to my home you know that I rarely decant wines into a glass decanter. If I need to decant I have a pretty clay pitcher that I use. Why is that? It’s because I have at least three glass decanters that have become impossible for me to keep clean, and they’re bulky.
When I was offered the new hand-blown carafe made by Glasvin I wasn’t interested. Then, when I read up on it, I discovered that it is meant to be placed upside down and cleaned in a dishwasher’s bottom rack. None of its predecessors were allowed in a dishwasher. This one I had to see!
My Review
There is a LOT to say about the Carafe by Glasvin, so let me put it all down in bullet points.
- It fits perfectly and securely in the bottom rack of my dishwasher.
- It has a nice little punt at the bottom, making it nice for presentation when the thumb rests there for pouring.
- The carafe is narrow, and the bottom fits inside a wine coaster/decanter stand.
- It has a very unique geometric design, topped with a perfect pour spout.
- It’s delicate-looking and feels like crystal.
- It’s lightweight, fits well in the hand, and is easy to grasp.
- Comes with a thick foam-lined box for storage after use, with a pretty design.
- The first bottle I used in the carafe was an aged Cabernet Sauvignon, 2015 Joseph Phelps Insignia, which tasted wonderful.
Conclusion
I did have the opportunity to clean the carafe in my dishwasher, and I’m happy to report it came out unharmed and spotless. Interestingly enough, on the evening before I washed it, two wine friends asked me how to keep a glass decanter clean over time. And I was happy to report: buy The Carafe from Glasvin.
What to Know
Best known for its cult-favorite wine glasses used by top sommeliers—and trusted by 30+ Michelin-starred restaurants—Glasvin introduces The Carafe, a sculptural, ultra-light, hand-blown vessel designed for wines that benefit from a gentler hand.
Created for restraint rather than exposure, The Carafe offers a more thoughtful approach to aeration and temperature control. Its slender silhouette fits seamlessly into an ice bucket, preserving chill while allowing just enough air to open champagne, whites, and delicate or mature reds. It’s sized for a full 750 mL bottle and shaped with soft, ergonomic curves for a controlled, secure pour.
Modern, measured, and mindful, The Carafe prioritizes clarity over oxygenation — ideal for wines that don’t need aggressive decanting but deserve intention in presentation.
Designed by Mark Ye for his children, Mimi and Matty, each piece is hand-blown and inherently unique, reflecting Glasvin’s philosophy of craftsmanship, restraint and everyday elegance.
