Meet Sangria’s more devilish brother, Sangrita: A traditional south of the border aperitif

For the curious imbiber interested in a devilish alternative, meet Sangrita, Sangria’s mischievous south-of-the-border brother.  Sangrita – meaning “little blood” – is the traditional non-alcoholic aperitif originating from Guadalajara, Mexico.  Served in a small shot glass it is typically made from a combination of fruit juices (such as orange, cucumber or papaya), mixed with fine chili powder and other spices and topped with pomegranate juice, which paints Sangrita its namesake blood-like color.

As one might expect from a truly Mexican beverage, Sangrita is customarily paired with a shot glass filled with tequila blanco (a.k.a. silver tequila on our side of the border).  However don’t let the glassware choice fool you; Sangrita is meant to be sipped side-by-side with tequila, not consumed as a shooter-and-chaser duo.  CORZO Silver Tequila, crafted using twice the amount of 100% pure blue agave than other tequilas and triple distilled via a proprietary process, is the ideal Sangrita accompaniment because it delivers an exceptionally smooth taste without the bite you might expect from lesser-quality tequilas.

Imparting sweet aromatics (black cherry, papaya and peppery spice) and a forward earthy finish (wet stones, grilled pineapple and spice), CORZO Silver paired with Sangrita is undeniable your newest and most enjoyable summer imbibing experience.

So, grab a bottle of CORZO Silver and try mixing-up a twist on Sangrita created by Corzo’s Mixology Specialist, Manny Hinojosa (recipe below).  In the expertly constructed CORZO Chipotle Sangrita, Manny brilliantly includes citrus in the chipotle mix and adds his own flair by using tomato juice for the blood-like color instead of the traditional pomegranate juice.
