Michael Perlis DOESN’T visit The Stars of Paso?

I am SOOOOOO fired!

Ian Blackburn, founder of Learn About Wine (www.learnaboutwine.com) has been putting on high quality wine events for several years.

On July 14th, I was scheduled to attend the media portion of the Stars of Paso Robles event at The Peninsula Beverly Hills.

Both people who read my columns regularly know how much of a fan I am of Paso Robles wines, so I was eager to attend this event.

I woke up at 4:30 that morning so I could go to my client that day and get some quality time in before heading off to the event. But, I managed to get out of there later than planned. I wasn’t concerned, because according to Mapquest it was only going to take me 35 minutes to get to the hotel.

Except of course, Mapquest doesn’t take into account L.A. traffic. But I still felt I would be okay.

Almost an hour-and-a-half later, I got off the 405 freeway at Santa Monica and stared at the long line of unmoving cars sitting on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Remember Michael Douglas in Falling Down?

Well, I wasn’t quite at that point, but I was feeling close. So, I turned around and drove home.

So, I won’t be writing about —

Catching up with wineries that I wrote about in my latest series of articles about visiting Paso Robles:
Ecluse
Venteux Vineyards

Trying the latest releases from wineries that I was already familiar with:
Anglim
Calcareous
Caliza
Derby
Eberle
Four Vines [I’m a club member]
Hug
L’Aventure
Lone Madrone
Minassian-Young
Niner Wine Estates
Rotta
Stacked Stone
Terry Hoage Vineyards
Treana
Austin Hope
Villa Creek

And trying wine from wineries that I had not yet had the pleasure of experiencing:
Alta Colina
Arada
August Ridge
Bodegas M
Cerro Prieto
Eden Canyon
Hammersky
Hearthstone
J & J Cellars
Katin
Kiamie
Mitchella
Nevarez
Ranchita Canyon
Roxo Port Cellars
Silver Horse

Oh well, next time. Unless I’m fired.

Michael Perlis provides outsourced controller services to businesses that do not need a full-time controller. He balances this with his interest in wine: reading and writing about it and, of course, drinking it. He is still trying to figure out how to combine these two pursuits.
