Mondial du Rhum 2024 : Announcing a new rum-focused summit for the spirits industry

The Mondial du Rhum (International Rum Summit) will host its first edition February 13th to 14th at the prestigious Palais Brongniart in Paris. This first-of-its kind event will gather creative and innovative personalities from around the world to explore the economic, industrial, political, historical, and educational aspects of the rapidly growing rum sector.

For the first time in France, the key players of the international rum ecosystem will meet for three days to discuss the challenges and opportunities that will shape the industry’s future. This event will assemble buyers, public institutions and interprofessional associations from more than 20 countries, along with stakeholders from every step of the production process all in one place. The Mondial du Rhum promises to be a dynamic forum for new initiatives, as well as fruitful discussions and new innovations. For this first edition, the Summit expects to welcome no less than 50 exhibitors from 22 countries. The event will be supported by partners including Business France, who will host 20 companies from French overseas territories, well-known for their prowess in rum production. More than 25 brands will be in attendance, including artisanal rums, infused rum, dark rum, white rum and many more varieties.

Going beyond tastings
As opposed to traditional events that are typically centered around tasting, the Mondial du Rhum differentiates itself by highlighting the entire rum ecosystem: producers, distributors, farmers, international buyers, packaging experts, ingredient suppliers and more. The Summit is effectively a one-stop shop for anyone interested in the rum industry and provides a unique opportunity to discover industry trends, such as up-and-coming distillers, ecofriendly packaging solutions, AI technology being used in rum production, and reusing sugarcane in pharmaceuticals.

With rum growing in popularity worldwide, this first edition in Paris is the ideal opportunity for the international rum ecosystem to discuss trends and perspectives for the future”, explains event organizer Patrick Loger.

France and Rum: Revolutionizing the artisanal market
As an industry leader, France is at the forefront of rum industry trends. Already well known for its rums from overseas territories, France has recently seen growth in mainland distillers as well, particularly amongst younger distillers, who provide a breath of fresh air for the industry. From Saint Pierre to Miquelon to Brest, rum is taking France by storm, as evidenced by increased consumption amongst the key segment of 26-49 year olds.

 Exploring cocktail and mixology trends
The Mondial du Rhum will play an important role in underlining emerging trends in the spirits industry with several countries scheduled to share their success stories in this area such as Japan, who will speak to the growth of its whiskies, Mexico, who will touch on tequila’s newfound appreciation, and of course, France and its renowned champagnes. New French rum producers will also join the debate, promoting innovative techniques particularly as they relate to sugarcane farming. Well-known bartenders from various countries will be in attendance to highlight the evolution of mixology, which directly contributes to the growth and development of the rum sector, especially in Asian countries.

Committing to a bright future
The Mondial du Rhum will also offer a rich slate of conferences  organized around the following 4 pillars : Public Affairs, Business, Innovation and Education. Over 35 speakers will share their expertise and weigh in on important issues in the rum industry. Over the course of the 3-day event, the Mondial du Rhum will celebrate talent and savoir-faire, encourage international partnerships and ignite innovation within the ecosystem.  A true crossroads of ideas, exchange and debate, the Mondial du Rhum will explore the cultural and societal implications of this spirit with the goal of :
