Canned Negroni Cocktails = Togronis!

Tasted a new-to-me canned cocktail called “Togronis” that was made with “dry gin, sweet vermouth and red bitters” which is exactly what is in a Negroni.  But in the canned cocktail category this one comes in at 25% alcohol – that’s much higher than your standard canned cocktails. I will share my own tasting notes, followed by tasting notes and more details I found on the Togronis website.

My notes: After a lot of shaking I opened the small can and poured it over ice. The color was not as deep as a typical Negroni, but it certainly wasn’t off-putting, just a little bit of salmon to enhance the usual red color. (Note: I usually serve my Negroni with an orange peel but I didn’t want that addition to change the flavor, so off I went as-is to try.)

On the nose I got sweet Vermouth, cherry, raspberry, orange and something that reminded me of candy, maybe red licorice. The taste was a bit different from a typical Negroni to me. I still got the sweet red vermouth and bitters but I also noted cinnamon, an earthiness, as well as both red and dark cherry. The gin itself was a bit masked by the other flavors, but there was some heat – from the alcohol – in the very long and spicy finish.

Conclusion: I would definitely drink this again. And I would also like to serve to a pal blind to see if they would identify it as a Negroni, or any gin-based cocktail. Just out of curiosity, as it’s yum-worthy no matter what.

TASTING NOTES – from Togronis website. “A well balanced and elegant cocktail with bright notes of sweet orange peel, dark cherry and fresh Italian herbs with just a hint of gentian root that completes the bitterness Negroni enthusiasts love.” VICTORIA VARELA / CERTIFIED SOMMELIER

OUR STORY – also from the website. “Togronis was conceptualized amidst the global pandemic, when bars and restaurants had to get creative and with looser regulations, started selling drinks to go. Which brought up an idea: why can’t I have my favorite craft cocktail in a can? Togronis (Craft Negroni To Go), by Common Pour, is the first line of ready to drink craft cocktails in a can.”
