Trefethen Wears a Mini

This looks kind of interesting.  A source in Napa (Not Trefethen) told me that large format bottles are mostly made just for charitable donations.  Even small wineries are expected to donate large format bottles to Napa-based charities. That sounds kind of costly.  And how many of us have ever purchased a 3-liter bottle of wine?  Not enough for a winery to make a profit I think.  But moving wine from one bottle into another sounds both costly and risky.

So, what’s the reason behind Trefethen’s new “Mini”?

1.  Trefethen wine is too good to give away.
2.  Due to the recession there are more large format bottles available than can be sold.
3.  This is the latest in technology/gadgetry to get past vintages, still in a winery’s possession, sold.
4.  Would Eve accept as a gift?
5. All of the above?
