Hi friends, I get lots of requests for donations, and I do what I can, as do many of you. A bottle here, a tasting there, it all helps. The request below is from a wine pal, Susan Pearsall, regarding a local ACS event that is looking for wine and/or liquor donations to make up some nice auction items. So, if you have something, please, keep reading:
The American Cancer Society is proud to announce its 3rd Annual Legacy of Hope Gala being held on Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita. This event will gather distinguished individuals from the entire Santa Clarita Valley area to join in a celebration of life and raise funds to support its life-saving programs, services and continue its mission to advance research and advocacy. The Gala will feature fine foods and wines, live entertainment, and a spectacular auction.
This year’s theme, Imagine…More Birthdays, depicts the American Cancer Society’s effort to create a world with less cancer by providing free programs and services that allow people everywhere to stay well, get well, find cures, and fight back against the disease. The dollars raised will go towards research, community education, patient services, and to support cancer prevention and early detection. While we are optimistic about the future, we still have a great deal of work to reach our goal of prevention and a cure in our lifetime. It is only through the generous spirit of individuals, businesses, and corporations like you that we can continue our fight against this devastating disease.
This year’s Honorees will be Linda & Moe Hafizi and Vantage Oncology. Also, an Award of Distinction will be given to Judith Harris, M.A., MFT. And, at press time, a smaller request has come to my attention: My son Jonathan has been receiving equestrian therapy at Carousel Ranch for the past 5 years. It has helped him tremendously in improving his coordination and his muscle strength, as well as improved his confidence.
For some of the children that ride at Carousel Ranch, this is the only form of exercise or movement that they get. It does wonders for the self esteem of these children, all with varying forms of special needs. It is crucial for both their physical and emotional development.

Every year, Carousel hosts a fundraising event called Heart of the West. It takes place at the end of August. As a parent of one of these children, we are required to bring in donated items for the silent auction.
Maybe you can donate a gift certificate for a wine tasting evening for two somewhere or a nice bottle of wine, whatever you can do — we would greatly appreciate it. I would be happy to come by and pick it up from you or you could send it directly to Carousel, please notate that it has been donated on behalf of Jonathan Haselbusch.
