I first heard about Mitch’s Oh Yeah! seasoning watching one of those morning news shows. A guest chef was demonstrating grilling and when asked what seasoning he was using, he said Mitch’s Oh Yeah! He said he particularly like it because it was not heavy with salt. That got my attention because so many bottled seasoning blends have so much salt in them, or if they don’t, they are very heavy on the pepper to make up for it. And while I am a fan of pepper and spices, they can sometimes put a damper on the wine experience.
So I tracked down the website (www.ohyeahspice.com) and ordered some. Loved it! I use it on pretty much everything from steak to fish; salads as well. And I mix it with olive oil to make a rub for the rib roasts that I make in our Ronco rotisserie [that’s another story, I guess].
Recently, I was close to running out, so I logged onto the Mitch’s Oh Yeah! website to order some more. Well, I kept getting an error message, probably due to operator error, which happens to me a lot. So, I sent an email off to the contact information on the website to ask if there was a problem or if there was another way to order the product. Mitch Shannon called me himself to take care of the order. He sure didn’t make any money from this order, that’s for sure!
But it was great to talk to him and have a few email exchanges. I asked him for more information so I could tell readers of Eve’s Wine 101 about this product. Even though this isn’t about wine, I’m hoping Eve will give me a little license to tout this. After all, food goes with wine, and besides Mitch’s is based in Lodi, home of some pretty awesome Zinfandel vineyards.

“This was invented when I went fishing,” Shannon said. He didn’t want to tote extra bottles of spices when he would venture into the great outdoors to fish and cook, so he started delving into the world of spice chemistry.
“I enjoy cooking and entertaining and I’ve been experimenting with spice blends for years,” Shannon said.
