A Preview of a Wine-Filled Sunset

Most of the time people buy tickets for a charitable event it’s because they not only want to support the charity, the event itself is very appealing.  With Sunset in the Vineyard, hosted by our Assistance League of Santa Clarita, wine is offered from mostly local non-commercial wineries.  It’s always so much fun that usually, during the event, my interviewees are more likely to rave about the wine (that you usually can’t buy anywhere) and the beer and the fun and the food and the auction and seeing their friends.

So, I got wise and asked them before the November 3 event why they support the Assistance League:

Marca Johnson: All proceeds support our programs, including Operation School Bell which provides clothing and shoes to elementary and junior high students in the Santa Clarita Valley. This year our goal is 3,000 students. Not to mention we enjoy the bounty of our local artisans who come out to support us.

Marlee Lauffer: Assistance League does wonderful work in the community. And…this is a fun afternoon!

Marsha McLean: Assistance League provides a great service – I am extremely proud of the way the League provides self esteem to so many by allowing our young people to shop for their own clothes, shoes, backpacks, etc.  Operation School Bell is such a worthy cause and I am happy to be able to support the League by my attendance at Sunset in the Vineyard.

Chris Tanner: As a member of Assistance League I get the opportunity to see the smiles on the kids and parents faces when they get their new school clothes, and enjoy the company of the students we play board games with at Newhall Elementary, and talk with the residents of the convalescent hospital as we serve them a home cooked dinner. Supporting and taking part in Sunset in the Vineyard is fun and even better knowing it helps to pay for all the other.  Thanks for your support, Eve.

Jo Ann Vindigni: Assistance League of Santa Clarita is such a wonderful organization for our community. Having had the privilege to help out at operation school bell, I know what joy this organization brings to so many young people as they shop for themselves for new school clothes. Wonderful job and such a great event to support your efforts.

Megan Lemley: Assistance league is inspiring to say the least! It’s wonderful to see an organization so completely dedicated to our community and the little lives in it. As an artisan, it’s integral to our mission, to be involved and supported within our very own community. Pulchella Winery has seen the effects of local support and we seek to give that back any time we can! Sunset in the Vineyard gave us a major head start, a wonderful platform to spring from, and an awareness of the great things happening around us. Not to mention that it’s a GREAT time had by all! See ya there!

Susie Clark: We love to pour our wine at this event! Good cause and wonderful people! Always a funtime for Two Hearts Estate!

Scott Pagter:  It’s always great to help out people in need and if I can do it with wine, all the better!!!  (Eitor’s note: These last three comments came from just three of the local winemakers that participate in the event every year.)

More Event News

This year, along with all the amazing wine, food, and fun, Chairmen Amanda Hezel and Marca Johnson are working hard to highlight Assistance League programs during the event, so attendees will have a an understanding of what Assistance League does philanthropically to support so many in need in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Keep in mind this once-a-year event is $75 in advance and $85 at the door, which includes a beautiful souvenir crystal wine glass and valet parking at Compa Vineyard in Newhall.  “All proceeds benefit the Santa Clarita community through the philanthropic programs of Assistance League.” For information on participating in or sponsoring the event please contact Jeannie Carpenter by email or by phone at (661) 255-5853.
