Today I’m pleased to share this news below from Frey Ranch Distillery, regarding their brand-spanking-new Uncut (aka cask strength) Rye. I am also happy to have received a bottle for review. Sharing below some bullet points from the news release, my review, and then the full release:

My Review (Evaluated in the Neat tasting glass used for judging spirits)
Greeted by the color of orange gold, clear and clean; the nose brought up memories of caramel apple, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, Bananas Foster, and rich earth; the taste showed off lots of heat, lots of spice, and as my mouth slowly watered I could note rich tones of warm banana bread, toffee nuts, caramel syrup, a very rich mouthfeel, and a finish…that has no finish.
I tried the rye again during the evening in a Maple Old Fashioned cocktail: To a mixing glass with ice add two ounces Frey Ranch Farm Strength Uncut Rye, one teaspoon bourbon barrel aged Canadian maple syrup and two dashes of Old Fashion bitters; stir or shake, pour over large rock and garnish with a Luxardo cherry. The ice in the shaker dilutes the cocktail somewhat, but the large cube melts slowly as to not dilute it much further. DELISH. Note: this is much stronger than a normal Old Fashioned so I suggest you linger on those amazing flavors twice as long.

The inaugural batch of Frey Ranch Farm Strength Uncut Rye is bottled at 124.52 proof and aged for a minimum of six years. A true expression of the rye grown at the 2,500-acre farm, the brand’s new flagship whiskey is made from a mashbill of 100% Canadian Winter Rye – a hearty variety of rye built for growing in cold weather environments, such as Northern Nevada where temperatures can drop to single digits during winter. Bottled at cask strength, the spirit remains untouched by dilution, delivering an American Rye in its purest, most authentic form. As a cask strength rye, the tasting experience differs from the 100-proof bottled-in-bond straight rye experience as the nose delivers a mild floral bouquet that dazzles with hints of root beer and candy cinnamon. The palate is reminiscent of cream soda and coffee beans while the finish delivers dried mint and fresh rye grain. The whiskey is intended to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
