Michael Perlis: DiMaggio Washington Director of Wine Education at All Corked Up

Some time ago, I wrote an article about some of my wine mentors. One of them, DiMaggio Washington, a man who was truly ahead of his time in the Santa Clarita Valley with the first wine bar [and the coolest cave in town], just gave me some great news regarding him and All Corked Up.

From DiMaggio:

“I have come on board with ACU as the “Director of Wine Education Services” meaning responsible for all of the wine classes and courses. In addition, to take a very active role in most of the wine events, food & wine classes and hosting, the PAC at COC and other outside wine tasting events. I’m also there for the customers as the on floor Sommelier for selections, questions and conversation. The classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm every week. These are short subject specific to region, styles or varietals. The Saturday afternoon classes for now we focus on “Wine Appreciation ” this is a 3 hour two session class from 1:00pm to 4:00 every Saturday. An overall and general coverage of wines and regions from around the world. Later we may start an “Advance Wine Appreciation” when it seems appropriate.
The WSET “Wine Spirit Education & Trust” is the full internationally recognized “Certification Program” students can obtain a certificate and pin with international status. I will offer the “Intermediate WSET” on Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00pm starting April 11th . There will be 4 four hours sessions, covering 48 wines, leading to the completion of the 16 hour training, followed by a 1 ½ exam. Also when appropriate, we will have the “Advance WSET”, a 32 hour course, covering 96 wines and blind tasting,  followed by a 3 hour exam including blind tasting.

Michael Perlis provides outsourced controller services to businesses that do not need a full-time controller. He balances this with his interest in wine: reading and writing about it and, of course, drinking it. He is still trying to figure out how to combine these two pursuits.
